Portugal vs France Tips

Portugal will be more than satisfied with a draw which should ensure a cagey match. Under 2.5 goals is my best bet at Euro 2020.

  • Portugal are undefeated in 15 of their last 17 matches (all competitions).
  • Portugal have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 matches (all competitions).
  • Portugal have drawn 7 of their last 10 matches (European Championship).
  • Portugal have drawn 2 of their last 3 matches against France (all competitions).
  • Portugal have seen under 1.5 goals in their last 4 matches against France (all competitions).
  • France are undefeated in their last 9 matches (all competitions).
  • France have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 6 matches (all competitions).
  • France have drawn 2 of their last 3 matches (European Championship).

Head to Head

France have a 17-5 advantage against Portugal with 5 draws in 27 matches.

Portugal Form

Portugal are undefeated in 15 of their last 17 matches.

Fernando Santos’ played two friendlies to prepare for Euro 2020. They drew 0-0 against Spain before a 4-0 win against Israel.

The Seleção started Euro 2020 with a 3-0 win against Hungary. Raphael Guerreiro opened the scoring in the 84th minute, Ronaldo scoring two late goals to put the result beyond doubt.

Portugal suffered a 4-2 defeat against Germany in their second game. Ronaldo opened the scoring but they found themselves 4-1 down in the 60th minute, Diogo Jota getting one back and Renato Sanches hitting the post.

Ronaldo has scored four goals in his last three internationals.

Portugal Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício, Anthony Lopes, Rui Silva
Defenders: Nélson Semedo, Pepe, Rúben Dias, Raphaël Guerreiro, José Fonte, Diogo Dalot, Nuno Mendes
Midfielders: João Moutinho, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Danilo Pereira, William Carvalho, Rafa Silva, Renato Sanches, Rúben Neves, Pedro Gonçalves, Sérgio Oliveira, João Palhinha
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo (captain), André Silva, Gonçalo Guedes, Diogo Jota, João Félix

Fernando Santos will be contemplating changes here, one obvious one being William Carvalho making way for Renato Sanches.

Captain Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 107 goals in 177 appearances for Portugal. He is closing in on being the top international goalscorer of all time.

France Form

France are undefeated in their last nine matches.

Didier Deschamps’ side won four straight heading into the European Championship. That included 3-0 wins against Wales and Bulgaria in international friendlies.

Les Bleus opened their Euro 2020 campaign with a 1-0 win against Germany. They went ahead through an own goal but controlled the match and could have won by a bigger margin.

France were then held to a 1-1 draw against Hungary in Budapest. Antoine Griezmann equalised in the 66th minute but they couldn’t find a winner against a disciplined opponent.

France Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Captain), Steve Mandanda, Mike Maignan
Defenders: Benjamin Pavard, Presnel Kimpembe, Raphaël Varane, Clément Lenglet, Kurt Zouma, Lucas Digne, Lucas Hernandez, Léo Dubois, Jules Koundé
Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Thomas Lemar, Corentin Tolisso, N'Golo Kanté, Adrien Rabiot, Moussa Sissoko
Forwards: Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Karim Benzema, Kingsley Coman, Wissam Ben Yedder, Marcus Thuram

Didier Deschamps is unlikely to make many changes here. Corentin Tolisso is a chance to replace Adrien Rabiot in midfield.

Ousmane Dembele suffered a knee injury against Hungary and won’t feature here.
