Netherlands vs Czech Republic Tips

Netherlands should have too much individual quality for the Czech Republic. I am backing Memphis Depay to inspire an Oranje win in the Euro 2020 Round of 16.

  • Netherlands have won 8 of their last 10 matches (all competitions).
  • Netherlands have won by 2+ goals in 5 of their last 7 matches (all competitions).
  • Netherlands have scored 2+ goals in their last 10 matches (all competitions).
  • Netherlands’ Memphis Depay has scored 7 goals in his last 6 internationals (all competitions).
  • Netherlands have seen BTTS in 7 of their last 10 matches against Czech Republic (all competitions).
  • Czech Republic have lost 3 of their last 6 matches (all competitions).
  • Czech Republic have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 8 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Czech Republic have a 5-3 advantage against Netherlands with 3 draws in 11 matches.

They last met in the 2016 European Championship qualifiers, Czech Republic winning 2-1 in Prague and 3-2 in Amsterdam.

Netherlands Form

Netherlands have won six of their last seven matches and scored 2+ goals in their last 10 games. They won every match in the group stage at Euro 2020.

Oranje started Euro 2020 with a 3-2 win against Ukraine. Goals to Georginio Wijnaldum and Wout Weghorst established a 2-0 lead, they let it slip to 2-2 but scored in the 85th minute through Denzel Dumfries.

Frank de Boer’s side then beat Austria 2-0, Memphis Depay converting an early penalty with Dumfries on target again in Amsterdam.

Netherlands beat North Macedonia 3-0 to complete the sweep in Group C. Depay opened the scoring with Wijnaldum scoring twice in a comfortable victory.

Netherlands Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Maarten Stekelenburg, Tim Krul, Marco Bizot
Defenders: Joël Veltman, Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Aké, Owen Wijndal, Stefan de Vrij, Patrick van Aanholt, Daley Blind, Denzel Dumfries, Jurriën Timber
Midfielders: Georginio Wijnaldum (Vice-captain), Davy Klaassen, Marten de Roon, Ryan Gravenberch, Frenkie de Jong, Teun Koopmeiners
Forwards: Steven Berghuis, Luuk de Jong, Memphis Depay, Quincy Promes, Donyell Malen, Wout Weghorst, Cody Gakpo

Luuk de Jong is out for the rest of Euro 2020 with a medial collateral ligament injury.

Expect Frank de Boer to revert to his strongest XI with Marten de Roon and Wout Weghorst coming back into the starting side.

Czech Republic Form

Czech Republic came to the European Championships in poor form. They had lost 4-0 against Italy in a friendly before a 3-1 win against Albania.

Jaroslav Silhavy’s side started Euro 2020 with a 2-0 win against Scotland. Patrick Schlick scored both goals including an audacious effort from the halfway line.

The Czech’s followed up with a 1-1 draw against Croatia with Schlick opening the scoring from the penalty spot.

Czech Republic suffered a 1-0 defeat to England in their final group game. It was a match with few chances and they couldn’t find a way back after going behind in the 12th minute.

Czech Republic Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Tomas Vaclik, Jiri Pavlenka, Ales Mandous
Defenders: Jan Boril, Jakub Brabec, Vladimir Coufal, Ondrej Celustka, Pavel Kaderabek, Tomas Kalas, Ales Mateju, David Zima
Midfielders: Antonin Barak, Vladimir Darida, Adam Hlozek, Tomas Holes, Jakub Jankto, Alex Kral, Lukas Masopust, Jakub Pesek, Tomas Soucek, Petr Sevcik, Michal Sadilek
Forwards: Michael Krmencik, Tomas Pekhart, Patrik Schick, Matej Vydra

Jan Boril is injured which means Ales Mateju is likely to start at left back.

Alex Kral and Tomas Holes are in line to partner Tomas Soucek in central midfield.

Silhavy is likely to stick with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation with few changes expected.
