Head To Head
This will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2005 Champions League, which Liverpool won 3-1 before going on to win the trophy in stunning fashion on that famous night in Istanbul.
Liverpool Form
It's been an outstanding start to the season for Liverpool - they've won 13 of their 15 matches in all competitions and are leading the Premier League table, while they've also prevailed in all three Champions League fixtures.
Liverpool are also on a five-game winning streak at Anfield in all competitions, including comfortably beating Bologna 2-0 in their second Champions League game.
The Reds conquered AC Milan and Leipzig either side of that victory to propel them equal top of the Champions League ladder with Aston Villa as the only two teams to secure nine points from nine.
Liverpool are coming off a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Brighton in the EPL this past weekend, with Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah scoring within a two-minute period in the second-half.
Bayer Leverkusen Form
Leverkusen are still proving extremely tough to beat like last season, but they haven't been as ruthless and that's reflected through their Bundesliga ladder position of fourth, seven points adrift of leaders Bayern.
Xabi Alonso's side have drawn three of their last four games, including their last two in the Bundesliga against Stuttgart and Bremen, while they were also held to a 1-1 draw against Brest in their last Champions League outing.
Leverkusen did beat AC Milan and Feyenoord in their two previous Champions League matches, so they are still in a strong position to finish in the top eight.
Leverkusen were held to a 0-0 draw against Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this past weekend, which was the first time they've failed to find the back of the net since their Europa League final loss to Atalanta last season.
Verdict
Liverpool are always tough to beat at Anfield and they go to another level on Champions League nights.
Leverkusen remain a top team, but there's no doubt they've fallen off the pace ever so slightly after their extraordinary season last term.
Can't go past Liverpool at Anfield, but Leverkusen can get on the scoresheet.
