The Danish Superliga is currently contested by 14 clubs who play a regular season from July to May. All teams play a full 26 match home-and-away season.
After the regular season the league split into a six-team championship playoff and an eight-team qualifying playoff. The top team at the end of the playoff is crowned Superliga champions.

Danish Superliga History
The Danish Superliga was founded in 1991 and replaced the Danish 1st Division as the highest football league in Denmark. 10 teams participated with the league changing format in the 1991-92 season which was increased to 12 in the 1995-96 season.
From 1996 to 2016 the Danish Superliga continued with 12 clubs playing each other three times. The Danish Superliga was expanded to 14 teams in the 2015-16 season.
