Czech Republic vs England Tips

England will be desperate to bounce back from their disappointing draw against Scotland. They remain in good form and should record a narrow win against an inconsistent Czech Republic side.

I am tipping an England win to nil at Wembley.

  • England have won 7 of their last 8 matches (all competitions)
  • England have won to nil in 6 of their last 7 matches (all competitions)
  • England have won 1-0 in 3 of their last 4 matches (all competitions)

England have a 2-1 advantage against the Czech Republic in four meetings with one draw.

Czech Republic Form

The Czech Republic went top of Group D after a 1-1 draw against Croatia. They lead the group with four points and a superior goal difference following a 2-0 win against Scotland in their opening match.

The Czech Republic took the lead just before halftime against Croatia. Patrick Schlick scored from the penalty spot after an even first half. Croatia battled back in the second period and equalised on 47 minutes.

Few chances followed in a cagey end to the match. Neither side threatened and the Czech Republic had 1.63 expected goals and 48% possession.

Jaroslav Silhavy’s side have been hard to beat and are on a three-match unbeaten run. The Czech Republic struggled against higher-ranked sides. A 1-1 draw with Belgium and a 1-0 loss to Wales in recent World Cup qualifiers came before a 4-0 defeat against Italy in a Euros warm-up match.

Czech Republic Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Tomas Vaclik, Jiri Pavlenka, Ales Mandous
Defenders: Jan Boril, Jakub Brabec, Vladimir Coufal, Ondrej Celustka, Pavel Kaderabek, Tomas Kalas, Ales Mateju, David Zima
Midfielders: Antonin Barak, Vladimir Darida, Adam Hlozek, Tomas Holes, Jakub Jankto, Alex Kral, Lukas Masopust, Jakub Pesek, Tomas Soucek, Petr Sevcik, Michal Sadilek
Forwards: Michael Krmencik, Tomas Pekhart, Patrik Schick, Matej Vydra

Silhavy has named an unchanged starting line-up for the Czech’s first two matches. He is likely to stick with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and name the same starting XI.

Striker Patrik Schick had an injury scare against Croatia after colliding with Dejan Lovren He is fit to play against England and is in top form, scoring three goals in his first two matches.

England Form

England were held to a cagey 0-0 draw against Scotland on Friday, ending the Three Lions seven-match winning streak in all competitions.

Gareth Southgate’s side must draw against the Czech Republic to qualify for the knockout stages. England are second in Group D on four points after defeating Croatia 1-0 in their opening match. They trail the Czechs on goal difference.

England had 60% possession against Scotland but failed to create clear chances. John Stones missed England’s biggest opportunity on 11 minutes, rattling the post with a header.

There was little attacking intent shown by the Three Lions. They failed to use their superior possession to good effect and had just one shot on target.

England remain in decent form overall, winning seven of their last eight in all competitions and conceding just one goal during this run.

England Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Aaron Ramsdale, Sam Johnstone, Jordan Pickford
Defenders: Ben Chilwell, Conor Coady, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, Ben White
Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice
Forwards: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling

Southgate is likely to stick with England’s 4-2-3-1 formation. He may consider changes in midfield after a lack of creativity against Scotland.

Harry Maguire is match fit following injury and could replace Tyrone Mings at centre back.

Out of form striker, Harry Kane is set to retain his place as the lone striker.
