The 2021/22 Premier League season ended in stunning style, bringing the curtain down on one of the most exciting and unpredictable seasons in recent memory.

The relegation battle and the fight for Champions League football both went down to the final day, although one was far less certain than the other.

Indeed, Tottenham needed to win to secure a spot in Europe's top competition next year and, following a 16th minute Dejan Kulusevski goal, they never looked back, beating already-relegated Norwich 5-0.

The fight to stay in the league was far less clear-cut. Needing the match Leeds' result, Burnley battled to the end against Newcastle, ultimately losing 2-1 to the rejuvenated Magpies.

Leeds looked to be wobbling after going a goal up against Brentford, but a 94th minute Jack Harrison goal saw the side secure survival as they beat an out-of-sorts Brentford 2-1.

While the excitement was palpable across the whole league, most eyes were fixed on the top.

Going into the final day of the season, Manchester City (90 points) and Liverpool (89 points) knew that a slip-up from either side would effectively see the trophy handed to their fierce rival.

Despite needing to win, both City and Liverpool found themselves trailing against Aston Villa and Wolves respectively.

In fact, City went 2-0 down against Villa, with Steven Gerrard's side threatening to do Liverpool a huge favour.

However, a stunning five minute blitz saw City score three goals through an Ilkay Gundogan double and a Rodri strike. The stadium seemed to be shaking with renewed vigour as each goal flew in, and City's win ultimately saw Pep Guardiola's side secure one of the most dramatic Premier League titles in memory.

Despite the 2021/22 season only just ending, attention is already turning to the new campaign.

Reigning champions Manchester City come in as favourites at $1.60 with Unibet, while this season's runners-up Liverpool are second favourites at $3.00.

Then, the betting starts to jump, with Chelsea next in line at $19.00. Manchester United are $21.00, Tottenham are $26.00, Arsenal come in at $51.00, while Newcastle are the most likely side out of the top six to win the league at $67.00.

Clearly, City and Liverpool are tipped to have a two-horse race once again, with the sides clearly some way ahead of their counter-parts.

What will be interesting next season is that City, who are yet to win the Champions League, may look to put more eggs into their European basket as they look to write the wrong of failing to win the biggest prize in club football.

Could this give the sides around them an even better chance of winning the league?
