Liverpool vs Southampton Tips - Liverpool backed to notch second cup win in a matter of days

Southampton were beaten 2-1 by Millwall in their last league game, with the Championship outfit arriving for this having lost their last two league games. 

Liverpool have won 12 of their last 20 meetings with Southampton, with the sides battling to four draws and Southampton winning four times. 

Liverpool's last outing saw the side battle to the first trophy of the season as they beat Chelsea in extra-time in an energy-sapping win in the EFL Cup Final. 

Victory was their fourth in their last four outings in all competitions, and it was made all the more impressive as they were missing so many big names. While Chelsea have not been great this season, it is rarely easy to beat a side in a cup final, with Liverpool showing all of their quality in that win. 

The Reds have seen goals scored consistently, with over 3.5 goals scored in six of their last seven. With the team likely to feature a number of youngsters once again, I am backing goals to be scored in an entertaining match. 

Southampton have struggled in recent weeks, with the Saints losing three of their last four matches in the Championship. 

Their 2-1 loss to Millwall was their second home defeat in a row by that scoreline, with Southampton unable to generate any momentum coming into what is a very tough assignment this week. 

While Southampton have impressed in the league this season, not having an extended cup run will help them to focus on a potential return to the Premier League. With this in mind, I predict the Saints will fall to a defeat in midweek.
