Western United vs Sydney FC Tips

Western United host Sydney in Ballarat at a venue they have not enjoyed too much success. After two big defeats, Western find themselves in some trouble while Sydney and their striker Bobo are beginning to kick into gear.

I’m backing Sydney to win and Bobo to score.

  • Western United have lost their last 3 matches (A-League).
  • Western United have lost 3 of their last 4 matches at Mars Stadium (A-League).
  • Sydney forward Bobo has scored 4 goals in his last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Sydney FC have won 2 of their last 3 matches against Western United (A-League).

Head to Head

Sydney FC have a 2-1 record over Western United in the head-to-head with no draws in three encounters.

Their last meeting saw the Sky Blues come away with a 2-0 win at home. Brazilian forward Bobo opened the scoring before defender Rhyan Grant added a second just after the break.

Western United Form

Western United are in danger of missing the finals after three straight defeats.

After a four-match unbeaten run, Western suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Brisbane. Despite opening the scoring through winger Lachie Wales, the game slipped away from the green-and-black late with Brisbane netting a 94th minute winner.

The side then suffered their greatest ever defeat when they were humbled in a 5-0 loss away to Western Sydney. Mark Rudan’s side conceded three second half goals, with their goal-difference taking a serious hit.

Things did not improve as Western conceded three first half goals against Perth in a 3-0 loss away from home.

Western United Team News

Defender Dalibor Markovic will miss the game with an ankle injury, while Socceroo Josh Risdon is also out after re-injuring his foot.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney could jump into outright second with a win.

The Sky Blues got back to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over Melbourne Victory. Brazilian striker Bobo returned to form with a goal in the sixth minute, which proved to be the decisive one.

A 3-2 loss in the derby followed against Western Sydney. Bobo was once again on target with a brace and even missed a penalty, which certainly came back to bite his side.

The Brazilian rectified this with a goal the following week in his side’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle away from home.

Sydney FC Team News

Left back Michael Zullo remains out of the side with a calf injury, while midfielder Chris Zuvela has injured his knee.
