Western United vs Melbourne Victory Tips

This fixture saw plenty of goals last season and it both sides have carried that goalscoring form into this season. I’m tipping over 2.5 goals and BTTS, with value on a Western United win.

  • Western United have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 3 matches against Melbourne Victory (A-League).
  • Western United have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 home matches (A-League).
  • Western United have won their last 3 matches against Melbourne Victory (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (all competitions).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 6 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Western United have won all three occasions against Melbourne Victory, with these matches all seeing BTTS and over 2.5 goals.

Western United ran away 2-1 victors the last time these two sides met. Goals either side of half time to defender Tomislav Uskok and forward Max Burgess sealed the win.

Western United Form

After a three-week break, Western United were met with a last minute 2-1 defeat to Melbourne City in their return.

Despite defender Ivan Vujica opening the scoring, Western United were unable to keep out a fast-finishing City.

But Western United very quickly returned to the winners list with a 5-4 win over Perth Glory, with the green-and-black scoring four second half goals.

Fullback Dylan Pierias scored a brace, while defender Tomoki Imai also scored a debut goal.

An 84th minute goal from Steven Lustica proved the decisive one on the day and sealed a famous Western United win.

Western United Team News

Basque import Iker Guarrotxena was rested in the last game and will in contention to return for this match.

Meanwhile, Socceroo Josh Risdon is still sidelined with a tibia injury.

Melbourne Victory Form

A 1-0 loss away to Adelaide United at the weekend saw the Victory facing their worst-ever start to an A-League season ahead of their mid-week clash with Perth.

Despite missing striker Rudy Gestede and ex-Wigan winger Callum McManaman, the Victory staged a late comeback to defeat Perth Glory 2-1 at home.

After conceding first, a late brace from midfielder Jake Brimmer steered the Victory to their first win of the season in dramatic fashion. Brimmer equalised in the 84th minute before slotting a penalty in stoppage time.

Melbourne Victory Team News

The Victory will be without Gestede who forced off with a hamstring injury in the opening ten minutes against Adelaide.

McManaman will also be sidelined after injuring his ankle in the same game.

Striker Ben Folami will be in contention to return after recovering from a knee injury sustained in a friendly.

Verdict

This fixture saw 12 goals across the three meetings last season, with all of those encounters seeing over 2.5 goals and BTTS. Western United are also coming off a 5-4 win, while the Victory have seen BTTS quite regularly recently.

I’m tipping over 2.5 goals and BTTS, while a Western United win also has value.
