Head to Head
Western Sydney have a 13-9 advantage in the head-to-head against Wellington with four draws in 26 matches.
The Wanderers escaped with a 1-0 win the last time they met with striker Kwame Yeboah scoring the winner after Wellington’s Luke DeVere was sent off.
Wellington Phoenix Form
Wellington have struggled since their relocation to Sydney – winning only once from their past 11 matches.
That one win came three matches ago against league leaders Central Coast Mariners away from home. Captain Ulises Davilla opened the scoring before forward Jaushua Sotirio’s 88th minute goal saw the Phoenix record a 2-1 win.
A 2-1 loss to reigning champions Sydney FC followed, before the Phoenix went down 2-0 in their rematch against the Mariners.
Despite a promising start against the Central Coast the tide turned once striker David Ball received his marching orders for a late challenge in the 27th minute.
Wellington is yet to record a point at WIN Stadium from the three matches they have hosted there.
Wellington Phoenix Team News
Midfielder Cameron Devlin has been cleared to return from injury, though the side will still be without plenty of its usual starters.
Defender Luke DeVere is expected to miss up to 12 weeks after picking up a knee injury against the Mariners which will require surgery.
Up front, Wellington will be without the suspended Ball as well as Tomer Hemed and Jaushua Sotirio who are sidelined with respective hamstring and knee injuries.
Western Sydney Wanderers Form
Western Sydney have enjoyed a six-match unbeaten run since their opening round loss.
The Wanderers remain one of the league’s most consistent sides this season and have shown plenty of character.
They were forced to come from behind twice against Macarthur with midfielder Graham Dorrans and striker Simon Cox scoring in the 2-2 draw. The Wanderers then backed this up with a 2-0 win at home against Melbourne Victory.
It took until the 72nd minute for the Wanderers to open the scoring with Dorrans slotting home a penalty. Striker Kwame Yeboah’s 88th minute goal off the bench then iced the side’s third win of the season.
Western Sydney Wanderers Team News
The Wanderers have had to deal without defenders Tass Mourdoukoutas and Dylan McGowan this season with the pair both sidelined with ankle injuries.
Goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic has also not seen a single minute due to a shoulder injury which has seen him placed on the side’s long term injury list.
