Head to Head
Sydney FC have been dominant in this fixture, holding a 24-13 record in the head-to-head with five draws in 42 encounters.
The last time these two sides met was earlier in the season where the Sky Blues recorded a 2-1 win. Long ranged goals from debutant Calem Nieuwenhof and midfielder Luke Brattan wrapped up the three points in Wollongong.
Sydney FC Form
Sydney’s start to the season has not been as dominant as it has in previous years. The Sky Blues were held to a 1-1 against Western Sydney in the derby, before going down 2-0 in a shock loss against the Central Coast.
Though Sydney returned to the winners list in style, defeating Macarthur 3-0 away from home. It was a second half onslaught which saw the Sky Blues score all three after the break.
Academy product Patrick Wood scored twice off the bench, while former Serbian international Milos Ninkovic also popped up with a goal.
Sydney FC Team News
Left back Michael Zullo will most likely spend another week on the sidelines as he recovers from a calf injury. Midfielder Harry Van der Saag is also out with an ankle issue.
Brazilian striker Bobo will also most likely miss this match with the 36-year-old not quite match-fit after returning to the club in January.
Wellington Phoenix Form
It’s been a tough start for the Phoenix, who have had to relocate to Sydney due to travel restrictions between Australia and New Zealand.
While the Phoenix have managed to score in all four of their games, it is the results which have not gone their way.
Wellington lost two of their first three matches, including a 2-1 defeat to bottom placed Newcastle Jets.
Though things finally turned last week when the Phoenix shocked Central Coast away from home by recording a 2-1 win. Captain Ulises Davila opened the scoring, before forward Jaushua Sotirio netted the winner in the 88th minute.
Phoenix Team News
Midfielder Reno Piscopo is only player sidelined for the Phoenix ahead of this match. The 22-year-old is yet to feature this season as he recovers from a calf injury.
