Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Tips

While Victory are in a world of trouble they are scoring goals. Sydney appear to be hitting form at the right time as they approach the second half of the season.

I’m tipping BTTS and a Sydney win, with over 3.5 goals.

  • Sydney FC have won 3 of their last 5 home matches (A-League).
  • Sydney FC have won their last 5 matches against the Victory (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have lost 6 of their last 7 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen over 3.5 goals in their last 3 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen BTTS in 7 of their last 8 matches against Sydney (A-League).

Head to Head

Sydney FC have an 18-16 advantage in the head-to-head with 19 draws in 53 matches.

The Sky Blues put the Victory to the sword in their last meeting, coming away with a 4-1 win in Melbourne. Former Victory winger Kosta Barbarouses netted a brace for Sydney in the big win.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney FC have returned to form after four matches without a win.

Brazilian striker Bobo scored his first goal on return to the club as the Sky Blues went on to share the points with Brisbane in a 1-1 draw.

Their fortunes changed the following week as they saw off Western United in a 2-0 win. Bobo converted a penalty in the first half, while right-back Rhyan Grant sealed the points with his goal just after half-time.

Sydney would make it consecutive wins as they defeated Newcastle 2-1 at home. Despite conceding first, goals from ex-Serbian international Milos Ninkovic and defender Alex Wilkinson guided the Sky Blues to victory.

Sydney FC Team News

Forward Trent Buhagiar continues to nurse a knee injury. Aside from this, head coach Steve Corica will have all his players fit.

Melbourne Victory Form

Things continue to go from bad to worse for Melbourne Victory.

The four-time champions have lost their last four matches and have conceded 13 goals in their last three.

Despite a valiant comeback against Western United where they rectified a 3-1 deficit, the Victory would go on to lose 4-3 after a 95th minute goal. Midfielder Jacob Butterfield scored his debut goal, while ex-Middlesbrough striker Rudy Gestede headed home his third for the season.

The following week saw the club suffer its greatest ever defeat at the hands of its rivals. The Victory went down 6-0 in the derby against City, before conceding another three against Adelaide in a 3-1 loss.

Melbourne Victory Team News

Defenders Ryan Shotton and Dylan Ryan will again sit out with groin and knee injuries respectively.

It appears forward Marco Rojas’ season could be over with further scans revealing the Kiwi international suffered a fracture in his leg.
