Sydney FC vs Macarthur Tips

Sydney FC have an impressive record at home, while Macarthur have played their best football on the road. Matt Derbyshire has scored six goals this season with five from his last three.

I'm tipping over 2.5 goals and a draw, with value on Derbyshire scoring.

  • Sydney FC are unbeaten in 5 of their last 6 home matches (A-League).
  • Sydney FC have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Macarthur are unbeaten in 3 of their last 4 away matches (A-League).
  • Macarthur have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (A-League).
  • Matt Derbyshire has scored 5 goals in his last 3 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

These two sides have only met on the one occasion with Sydney FC running away 3-0 winners.

Despite a strong start from Macarthur, a red card to captain Mark Milligan saw the Sky Blues take full advantage. Academy product Patrick Wood netted a brace, while veteran Milos Ninkovic also found the back of he net.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney’s return to form hit a road block in their last match, with the Sky Blues falling victim to the tight turn around between matches.

Prior to last Tuesday’s loss to Melbourne City, Sydney recorded consecutive wins over Macarthur and Wellington. A double from winger Kosta Barbarouses helped sink the Phoenix in a 2-1 win at home.

Sydney were then held to a goalless draw against Brisbane, with Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young making several desperate saves to keep the fast finishing Sky Blues at bay.

Sydney’s run would come to an end in a 3-2 defeat away to Melbourne City. After trailing 3-0, Steve Corica’s side scored twice late through Milos Ninkovic and and youngster Patrick Wood.

The Sky Blues also had a late penalty shout waved away after defender Ryan McGowan was dragged down in the box.

Sydney FC Team News

Midfielder Harry Van der Saag is a chance to return from injury, while Michael Zullo remains doubtful as he recovers from a calf injury.

Midfielder Luke Brattan will miss this match after being forced off with concussion the first half against Melbourne City. Current concussion protocols require players to be sidelined for a minimum of six days.

Macarthur Form

Macarthur too suffered a big defeat away from home after a several strong performances.

The Bulls won plenty of admirers after defeating then league leaders Brisbane Roar 2-0 away from home. Midfielder Denis Genreau opened his goalscoring account for the club, before Matt Derbyshire sealed the win in stoppage time.

Macarthur then sent an ominous warning to their rivals with a 4-0 win against Adelaide United. Derbyshire starred with a hattrick while also assisting his captain Mark Milligan, who scored his second goal for the club.

Though the Bulls were quickly brought down to earth after going down 4-1 away to the out of form Western United.

Macarthur Team News

Macarthur will come in with a fully fit squad.

Derbyshire has wasted little time at his new club. The Englishman has scored five goals in his last three matches and poses a significant threat every time the Bulls surge forward.
