Sydney FC vs Central Coast Mariners Tips

Neither Sydney nor the Mariners have been high-scoring this season. Both sides have kept a tight defence, with a majority of their recent respective matches seeing under 2.5 goals. I’m tipping this match to see under 2.5 goals with BTTS No.

  • Sydney FC have seen under 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 12 matches (all competitions).
  • Central Coast have seen under 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches (A-League).
  • Central Coast have seen BTTS No in their last three matches (A-League).

Head to Head

These two sides have met 49 times with Sydney FC holding a 25-14 record, with 10 draws played.

The Sky Blues recorded a comprehensive 3-0 win the last time these two sides met. Serbian midfielder Milos Ninkovic opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before youth products Marco Tilio and Harry Van der Saag scored respective stoppage time goals.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney FC came into the season following a 4-0 win over Shanghai SIPG and a 1-1 draw with Yokohama F Marinos in the AFC Champions League.

The Sky Blues have built on this and have started the new A-League campaign unbeaten in their first two.

Sydney opened their season with a 2-1 against Wellington. Debutant Calem Nieuwenhof opened the scoring with a long-ranged strike.

Midfielder Luke Brattan then sealed the win with an equally impressive set-piece goal.

Their most recent match saw the Sky Blues draw with Western Sydney 1-1 in the derby. Forward Kosta Barbarouses drew first blood from the penalty spot, before the Wanderers equalised five minutes later.

Sydney FC Team News

Brazilian striker Bobo could be set to make his long-awaited return for Sydney.

Bobo scored 52 goals in 71 appearances and signed with the Sky Blues in early January after spending two seasons abroad.

The Sky blues otherwise come in with a fully fit squad.

Central Coast Mariners Form

After claiming last season’s wooden spoon, the Central Coast Mariners have enjoyed a successful start to the new season.

An opening round 1-0 win against the Newcastle Jets was followed by a 2-0 win away to Macarthur.

Midfielder Daniel De Silva opened the scoring against the Bulls in the 35th minute, before substitute Jordan Smylie smashed home the winner from close range in stoppage time.

This perfect start came to an end in their last match against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Despite creating several chances, the Mariners went down 1-0 at home and were held goalless for the first time in four matches.

Mariners Team News

Costa Rican international Marco Urena made his debut for the club off the bench in the loss against the Wanderers.

Serbian midfielder Stefan Jankovic and Polish winger Michal Janota are in contention to debut against the Sky Blues after the pair completed their two-week quarantine.
