Head to Head
Brisbane Roar hold an 18-16 advantage in the head-to-head over Sydney with 14 draws in 48 matches.
Their last meeting finished all square with a 1-1 draw. Brisbane’s Dylan Wenzel-Halls opened the scoring in the 11th minute, before young Sydney forward Luke Ivanovic equalised just before half-time.
Sydney FC Form
Sydney have had their last two matches against Melbourne City and Western United respectively postponed due to the lockdown in Victoria.
Though this is not expected to faze Sydney too much, with the reigning champions returning to form in 2021.
After a 2-0 loss to the Mariners, Sydney responded in the best possible way by defeating Macarthur 3-0 away from home.
A red card to Macarthur skipper Mark Milligan saw Sydney take full advantage in the second half. Academy product Patrick Wood netted a brace, while veteran midfielder Milos Ninkovic scored his first of the season.
Sydney then backed this up with a 2-1 win against Wellington. Winger Kosta Barbarouses was the hero with a brace as the Sky Blues recorded their third win of the season.
Sydney FC Team News
The club announced Brazilian striker Bobo will make his long awaited return this weekend. The 36-year-old returned to the club after two seasons abroad, scoring 42 goals in 57 appearances during his first stint.
The extended break could also see fullback Michael Zullo return from a calf injury.
Midfielder Chris Zuvela has been placed on the long term injury list after rupturing his ACL in their win against Wellington.
Brisbane Roar Form
Brisbane Roar have been one of the most consistent sides in the league this season.
The Roar flexed their muscle in a dominant 5-2 win against Melbourne Victory. Dylan Wenzel-Halls opened the scoring before ex-Celtic forward Scott McDonald and Japanese import Riku Danzaki added respective doubles.
Though the side’s four match winning run came to an end in their next match. The Roar went down 2-0 at home to Macarthur, with the Bulls scoring twice in the second half.
This was followed by a 0-0 draw against the Newcastle Jets. Danzaki thought he had opened the scoring just after half-time, only for it to be ruled offside.
Brisbane Roar Team News
Brisbane come into this match with a fully fit side.
Roar coach Warren Moons believes Japanese import Masato Kudo is edging closer to a starting debut, with the forward still developing his fitness after quarantine.
