The Jets are chasing a 16-year first and aiming to win four games in a row for the first time since 2009 - however, I can't look past the ladder leaders here. Auckland come into this fixture having won four of their last five games, which has propelled them to an eight-point buffer at the summit. The Kiwi club are enjoying a dream debut season in the A-League and eased past the Jets in the reverse fixture in Auckland. In saying that, I think the Jets can get on the scoresheet - they've found the back of the net in their last 11 games, with Lachie Rose and Kota Mizunuma adding some much-needed spark in attack.
- BTTS has landed in three of Auckland's last four games
- Auckland were involved in a 4-4 draw last week vs Adelaide
- Newcastle have scored in their last 11 games
- Auckland have won four of their last five games
- Newcastle haven't won four games in a row since 2009
Head To Head
Auckland prevailed 2-0 in their only previous meeting back in Round 6 at Go Media Stadium, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes.
Newcastle Jets Form
It's been a brilliant last month or so for the Jets, who come into this encounter unbeaten in their last five and on a three-game winning streak.
Not since 2018 have the Jets won three games in a row and you have to go all the way back to 2009 for when they registered four on the spin.
After back-to-back draws with Perth and Central Coast, the Jets have gone on a tear, defeating Melbourne Victory (3-0), Adelaide United (2-1) and Brisbane Roar (3-1). With two games in hand, Newcastle have moved up to ninth on the ladder, nine points behind a finals position.
Lachie Rose has been superb since returning from injury, scoring five goals, while Japanese recruit has been instrumental in Newcastle's form reversal, providing three assists and scoring once since joining the club.
Newcastle Jets Team News
Dane Ingham and Phillip Cancar are available for selection again after injury, with Ben Gibson dropping out.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland couldn't have asked for a better debut season in the A-League, with the Kiwi club flying high with an eight-point lead at the top of the table heading into Round 22.
With just two defeats all season and a competition-best 17 goals conceded, Auckland are proving extremely difficult to break down.
Steve Corica's side have won their last two away games against the Wanderers and Western United, but saw their four-match winning streak snapped last week in a pulsating 4-4 draw with Adelaide.
Auckland are sharing the goals around in attack, with Guillermo May, Neyder Moreno and Logan Rogerson each scoring seven so far for the campaign.
Auckland FC Team News
Dan Hall remains in the casualty ward in the only injury concern for Auckland.
Verdict
The Jets are on one of their best runs in years, but it's tough to see them picking up a fourth win in a row for the first time in 16 seasons.
Auckland have been the best and most consistent team all season and are incredibly hard to beat. I do think Newcastle can get on the scoresheet at home, but Auckland are deserved favourites.
