Head to Head
Melbourne Victory have a 27-18 advantage in the head-to-head with 10 draws in 55 encounters.
Adelaide United picked up a 1-0 win in their last meeting earlier this season, with 16-year-old Mohamed Toure scoring the winner just after half time.
Melbourne Victory Form
Melbourne Victory’s season has spiraled out of control.
Despite picking up a 2-0 win over Wellington courtesy of a double from forward Rudy Gestede, the Victory would concede ten goals in their next two matches.
A heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Western United followed, with the Victory conceding in the 95th minute.
Second half goals from Gestede and midfielder Jacob Butterfield levelled the score after being 3-1 down. But the Victory were unable to make the most of this momentum and would go on to lose in dramatic circumstances.
Things would go from bad to worse as they suffered their greatest ever defeat at the hands of their rivals. A 6-0 loss to Melbourne City in the derby saw the Victory hit rock bottom and pressure mount considerably on head coach Grant Brebner.
Melbourne Victory Team News
New Zealand international Marco Rojas will miss the upcoming match due to injury.
No timeline has been placed on left-back Adama Traore’s return from a hamstring problem, nor for ex-Middlesbrough defender Ryan Shotton who hurt his groin.
Centre-back Dylan Ryan is expected to be out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Adelaide United Form
Adelaide have returned to form with three straight wins.
A hattrick of penalties converted by Tomi Juric got the Reds back on track in a big 3-2 win against the Central Coast.
They backed this up in another five-goal thriller against Western Sydney. Winger Craig Goodwin scored his first goal on return, before captain Stefan Mauk doubled their lead just before half time.
Despite a Wanderers fightback, Adelaide held firm and found a late goal through striker Mohamed Toure to win the match 3-2.
The Reds completed the trifecta in a 2-1 win at home against Newcastle. Midfielder Louis D’Arrigo scored his first of the season before Goodwin sealed the win with a 77th minute goal.
Adelaide United Team News
Adelaide welcomed back defenders Ryan Strain and Michael Jakobsen from injury in their win against the Jets.
They are still without several defensive players, including midfielders Ryan Kitto and Nathan Konstandopoulos both of whom are out with a knee injuries.
