Melbourne City and Western United will battle it out for a place in the A-League Grand Final when they meet in the semi-finals on Wednesday. City defeated Western United a week ago in the final league game, but will it be same outcome in the last four clash at Bankwest Stadium in Sydney?

Melbourne City Form & Team News

Melbourne City ended the regular season in second spot to earn a place in the semi-finals. They did so on the back of a run of two wins and a draw since the A-League season restarted.

City defeated Premiers Plate winner Sydney FC 2-0 and then drew 2-2 draw with Adelaide United to wrap up the runners-up spot. Erick Mombaerts' side then overcame a weakened Western United 3-1 in their final game last Wednesday.

Melbourne City have lost just three times in 2020, winning 8 of their 15 games and drawing four times. They have been one of the A-League's most consistent sides since the turn of the year, but have never played in a Grand Final. Can they break their semi-final hoodoo this season?

Western United Form & Team News

Western United's dream debut season in the A-League continues after they defeated Brisbane Roar 1-0 in Sunday's Elimination Final to progress to the last four. Alessandro Diamanti scored a match-winning free-kick.

Mark Rudan's side have been on a dream run to end the season, winning seven of their last nine games. One of the two defeats was against City, but the likes of Besart Berisha and Diamanti were rested in preparation for the clash with Roar.

Mark Rudan's side beat Central Coast Mariners, Adelaide United, Melbourne Victory, Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Glory and Sydney FC on the run in to finish in fifth spot on the ladder in their maiden A-League season. Can they continue the fairytale beginnings to their history by reaching the Grand Final?

There has been so much to like about Western United this season, but this may be the end of the road. This will be their seventh game in 24 days and the quick turnaround from Sunday's Elimination Final is against Mark Rudan's side.

City won't get a better chance to reach a Grand Final and they should get the job done. Expect goals too given how the three games between these sides have played out this season.
