Head to Head
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides. Macarthur are yet to make a trip to AAMI Park, with most of their matches taking place in Sydney due to border restrictions.
Melbourne City Form
Melbourne City have returned in emphatic fashion with three straight wins.
Last season’s runners-up defeated Sydney FC 3-2 in the Grand Final rematch with Jamie Maclaren netting a double.
City would then back this up with a comfortable 2-0 win over Western Sydney. Maclaren opened the scoring with a tidy finish in the sixth minute before adding a second just after the break.
His goalscoring run would continue as he converted the first of Melbourne City’s six goals against Melbourne Victory. The 6-0 win was City’s biggest ever in their short history.
Midfielder Connor Metcalfe drove the nail in the coffin with a second half brace, while academy product Stefan Colakovski scored his debut goal late in the match.
Melbourne City Team News
City’s only injury concern is midfielder Aiden O’Neil, who has been sidelined for several weeks due to a back problem.
Maclaren is well-and-truly the league’s in-form striker with five goals in his last three matches. He leads the Golden Boot with eight goals this season.
Macarthur have had an ambivalent few weeks in the A-League.
Following their 4-1 defeat away to Western United, the Bulls bounced back with a 1-0 win against reigning Champions Sydney FC. Matt Derbyshire’s first half goal proved the difference as Macarthur kept the clean sheet against the ten-manned Sydney.
This win was short-lived as the Bulls fell to Central Coast in Gosford the following week. After conceding early Macarthur were unable to get back into the contest in a scrappy affair.
Macarthur have been solid away from home this season. The Bulls are unbeaten in four of their last six away matches.
Macarthur Team News
Striker Milislav Popovic continues to remain on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Left-back James Meredith made a successful return from a groin injury in the loss to the Mariners.
