Melbourne Victory were consigned to a crushing 3-1 loss to Central Coast Mariners in the Grand Final of the A-League back in May.

The Lambton Jaffas were beaten 2-1 by Edgeworth in their last outing as they lost more ground on Broadmeadow Magic at the summit of the NPL Northern NSW.

While the Jaffas have enjoyed an excellent season to this point, all of their four defeats in the league have come across their last five matches. A 6-0 loss to leaders Broadmeadow at home was particularly damaging, with the Jaffas blown away on the day.

While the home side will relish the chance to stun Victory, I cannot see them beating a team that was in inspired form in Australia's top league last season.

Melbourne Victory Form

Melbourne Victory's last competitive match saw them fall at the final hurdle in the A-League as they were beaten 3-1 by the Central Coast Mariners in the Grand Final.

While few would argue with Central Coast deserving to win the trophy after the season they had, Melbourne were moments from a stunning 1-0 win before they conceded in the 91st minute. Extra-time came and went, with the Mariners in the ascendancy and scoring from each of their three shots on target to win 3-1 and lift the trophy.

With the disappointment of last season still ringing in their ears, Melbourne will eye winning their first match back on the pitch. If Melbourne can hit the heights of last season when they take on Lambton, there should only be one winner in this one.
