Head to Head
Wellington Phoenix have a slight 16-15 advantage against the Mariners with 7 draws in 38 meetings.
A first half blitz saw the Phoenix run away 3-1 victors the last time these two sides met. Left-back Liberato Cacace and forward Gary Hooper scored early, before winger Jaushua Sotirio sealed the win with a 78th minute goal.
Central Coast Mariners Form
Central Coast are this season’s big early surprise.
Despite claiming the wooden spoon last season, the Mariners currently sit on-top of the table with three wins from their first four.
The Mariners did not let a narrow 1-0 loss to Western Sydney faze them as they went on to record an upset win over reigning champions Sydney FC.
A Ben Warland own goal saw Central Coast take the lead in the 53rd minute, before the in-form Alou Kuol put the nail in the coffin in the 74th to lock in a 2-0 win.
Mariners Team News
Serbian midfielder Stefan Jankovic and Polish winger Michal Janota have finished their two-week quarantine and will be looked at to make their respective debuts.
After scoring the sealer last week, Alou Kuol is a chance after coming off the bench in the win against Sydney FC.
Wellington Phoenix Form
It’s been a tough start for Wellington, who have had to permanently relocate to Sydney until further notice.
The Phoenix are without a win from their first three matches and sit at the bottom of the table. While Wellington have scored in each of their three games, the results have not gone their way.
They opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Sydney before holding Macarthur to a 1-1 draw.
Their most recent match saw the Phoenix go down in a 2-1 defeat to the Newcastle Jets. Captain Ulises Davilla managed to pull one back in 85th minute to set up an interesting finish to the match, but Wellington were unable to find that equaliser.
Phoenix Team News
Midfielder Alex Rufer will return to the line-up after serving a one-match suspension.
Playmaker Reno Piscopo will spend another week on the sidelines as he recovers from a calf injury picked up on the eve of the season.
