Head to Head
Adelaide have a 24-19 record against the Mariners with seven draws in 50 encounters.
The Reds picked up the points with a 2-0 win the last time these two sides met. Striker George Blackwood opened the scoring in the 82nd minute before a 15-year-old Mohamed Toure sealed the win with his debut goal.
Adelaide United Form
It’s been a difficult few weeks for Adelaide, who have lost their last three matches.
Injuries to several key starters saw Adelaide vulnerable against a red-hot Brisbane Roar, with the Reds succumbing to a 3-1 defeat away from home.
While Adelaide regained some players for their next match against Perth, they failed to rectify the loss against Brisbane. Despite scoring first through captain Stefan Mauk, the Glory came from behind to record a 2-1 win.
Things then went from bad to worse for the Reds who suffered a 4-0 defeat away to newcomers Macarthur. This was the second time this season Adelaide had conceded more than four goals.
Adelaide United Team News
Adelaide will be without defender Michael Jakobsen due to a calf injury, with ex-Schalke centre-back George Timotheou taking his place.
Fullback Ryan Strain is also unavailable with a groin injury, while Ryan Kitto continues his recovery from a knee issue.
Midfielder Javi Lopez is also most likely to miss, with the Spanish import suffering a calf injury two weeks ago.
Central Coast Mariners Form
Central Coast have won their last three matches and have shown plenty of character.
Trailing 2-0 early at home to Melbourne City, young midfielder Jaden Casella’s 41st minute goal breathed life into the side just before the break. Playing in game 200, forward Matt Simon drew his side level from the spot before midfielder Daniel De Silva curled home an emphatic winner.
Central Coast were forced to do it all again the following week when they fell behind to Western United. Simon again led the charge with a goal, while a four minute brace from striker Alou Kuol saw the Mariners walk away with a 3-2 win.
The side’s remarkable month was capped off with a 2-0 win against the struggling Wellington. Simon opened the scoring in the 40th minute, before fellow veteran Oliver Bozanic converted the side’s second in the 50th minute.
Central Coast Mariners Team News
The Mariners come in with a fully fit line-up after midfielder Daniel Bouman’s return from a hamstring injury.
Club veteran Matt Simon has wound back the clock this season and found himself in red-hot form. The 35-year-old has three goals in his last three and will be a threat against a weakened Adelaide side.
