Melbourne City vs Sydney FC Tips

It’s a Grand Final rematch in the A-League. Both teams are without several stars, though Sydney’s Bobo has enjoyed an impressive spell at the back end of the season.

I’m tipping under 2.5 goals and Bobo to score.

  • Melbourne City have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 matches against Sydney (A-League).
  • Sydney have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 matches (A-League).
  • Sydney’s Bobo has scored 8 goals in his last 11 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

Sydney have a 15-10 advantage in the head-to-head with 10 draws in 35 matches.

Their last match ended 1-1 after a thrilling end in Sydney. The Sky Blues took the lead from winger Kosta Barbarouses, before City equalised after striker Jamie Maclaren netted a 98th minute penalty.

Melbourne City Form

Melbourne City’s youth brigade has shone in the absence of the side’s established stars.

Substitute Anthony Lesiotis thought he had buried his former side when he opened the scoring against Melbourne Victory. But a late set piece caught City of guard and they were forced to share the points in a 1-1 draw.

Their next match saw them go down 2-1 at home to Newcastle. Despite opening the scoring through forward Stefan Colakovski, the premiers failed to hold on and went on to lose 2-1.

But they found their feet when it mattered, defeating Macarthur 2-0 in last week’s semi-final. Colakovski opened the scoring before fellow youngster Marco Tilio booked City’s spot into the Grand Final with his 55th minute goal.

Melbourne City Team News

City will be without star striker Jamie Maclaren, midfielder Connor Metcalfe and defender Curtis Good due to them being in quarantine.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney come into the Grand Final as the in-form side.

English forward Adam Le Fondre has continued where he left off two years ago, scoring a brace as Sydney dismantled Adelaide 4-1. The Sky Blues scored three second half goals in a dominant display on the road.

Despite already locking up second place, Sydney defeated Brisbane Roar 2-0 away from home. Winger Kosta Barbarouses opened the scoring in the 16th minute before midfielder Harry van der Saag sealed the win with a 90th minute goal.

Sydney then continued this form into the finals with a 2-1 win over Adelaide United.

Le Fondre opened the scoring before Bobo doubled the lead in the 43rd minute. The Sky Blues had the chance to extend their lead further albeit Le Fondre missed a penalty.

Sydney FC Team News

Striker Trent Buhagiar will miss the match with a groin issue, while left back Michael Zullo remains sidelined with a calf injury.

Defender Ryan McGowan and first choice goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne are unavailable due to being in quarantine after returning from international duty.

The A-League Grand Final is being played at 5.05pm AEDT on Sunday, June 27 at AAMI Park.

Both teams are hamstrung due to international duty. Sydney’s Bobo is in top form and both defences have remained solid despite losing many important players.
I’m tipping under 2.5 goals and Bobo to score.
