Sydney FC and Melbourne City contest the 2020 A-League Grand Final at Bankwest Stadium in Sydney on Sunday. The Sky Blues are bidding for a record fifth A-League title, while City are lining up in a Grand Final for the first time.
Sydney FC finished top of the ladder to win the Premiers Plate and will go head-to-head with second placed City for the A-League championship after both won their semi-finals 2-0 on Wednesday. Who will be crowned premiers?
Sydney FC Form & Team News
Sydney FC bounced back to form in perfect fashion on Wednesday as goals from Milos Ninkovic and Adam Le Fondre earned a 2-0 win over Perth Glory in the semi-finals.
The victory ended a five-game run without a win in which the Sky Blues lost to Newcastle Jets, Melbourne City and Western United as well as drew with Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar.
The Sky Blues had wrapped up the Premiers Plate when defeating Wellington Phoenix in the first game back, before losing their way. But they were comfortable winners over Perth in a rematch of last year's Grand Final.
Defending champions Sydney FC will be playing in a sixth Grand Final, and bidding to make it a record fifth A-League championship.
Melbourne City Form & Team News
Melbourne City set up a first-ever Grand Final appearance with a 2-0 victory over A-League newcomers Western United in Wednesday's semi-final.
City ended the regular season with two wins and a draw to seal second spot on the ladder, and continued that unbeaten run as a Jamie Maclaren penalty and Tomoki Imai own goal seal victory. Can they now go on to lift the A-League title?
They enter the Grand Final as one of the A-League's most consistent sides since the turn of the year, losing only three games in 2020. But will they get the better of Sydney FC on Sunday?
Sydney FC vs Melbourne City Head To Head
Melbourne City were 2-0 winners when the sides met at the start of August, during Sydney FC's drop in form. Craig Noone and Maclaren were on the mark that day, giving Melbourne their second win in the last three meetings.
Those two City wins, however, are the only ones in the last 12 head to heads. Sydney have won 9 of the 12 with one draw during that time.
Sydney FC vs Melbourne City Odds
Sydney FC are $2.40 favourites to create history and become most successful A-League side. Melbourne City are $2.75 to win their first title in the 90 minutes market, with the draw priced at $3.50.
Sydney FC vs Melbourne City Match Up
Sydney have Grand Final history, while Melbourne City will line up in their first. These two sides have been evenly matched over the last four meetings and we look set for a tight and tense contest at Bankwest.
All four finals played this year have had under 2.5 goals, while the last three Grand Finals (two featuring Sydney FC) have also had two goals at most.
We're likely to get another clash between two teams desperate not to lose. With three of Sydney's four A-League titles being won via a penalty shootout, we could be set for another final going all the way.
