With the tension ramping up, Melbourne Victory are the favourites to win the competition this year at $4.33 with bet365 after a superb run has seen them taste defeat just twice across their opening group of matches.

Wellington Phoenix are right behind them at $5.00 alongside the likes of the Central Coast Mariners ($5.00), Sydney FC ($7.00), Melbourne City ($8.00) and Western Sydney Wanderers ($8.00).

Next in line are Macarthur FC ($10.00), with the betting then stretching with Adelaide United ($34.00) and Brisbane Roar ($34.00) also available.

The big underdogs in the betting are the Perth Glory ($67.00), Newcastle Jets ($126.00) and Western United ($1001.00).

In the 2022/23 season, Melbourne City romped to the title win as they finished with 16 wins, seven draws and three defeats in 26 games. The 55 points they picked up means they finished the regular season at the summit 11 points clear of the Central Coast Mariners in second.

However, City were left red-faced in the final as they were humiliated in a 6-1 loss to the Mariners as they missed out on doing the double.

The Mariners' triumph was made even more impressive when considering they finished 11 points behind City at the summit, while they only finished two points clear of Adelaide United in third. The Mariners simply proved that winning the league can often mean very little in the Grand Final.

Following an incredibly disappointing way to end the season for Melbourne City, they will now look forward to the new campaign as they attempt to add the title of Premiers to a league win. However, with the side carrying the scars of that humbling defeat in the Grand Final, will this hurt them this year?
