Reds vs Chiefs Tips

The Reds are expected to bounce back after their horror show last weekend. At home Reds had won 11 in a row prior to their match against the Crusaders.

There is value in the handicap market with it set at six points. My best bet is for the Reds to lose by less than six.

  • Reds have won 8 of their last 11 matches.
  • Reds have won 11 of their last 12 matches at home.
  • Chiefs have won 7 of their last 9 matches.
  • Chiefs have won their last 5 matches against the Reds.

Head to Head

Chiefs have won their last five matches against the Reds. During those matches the Reds have averaged a measly 10 points per match.

Reds Form

Much was expected of the Reds coming into Super Rugby trans-Tasman. They won the Super Rugby AU title this year, defeating the Brumbies in the final.

Facing New Zealand sides was always going to be the big test and thus far the Reds, along with all the Aussie sides, have failed. It began with a 40-19 defeat in Dunedin against the Highlanders.

Last week the Reds were destroyed on home soil by the Crusaders. It was a much anticipated match with the champions of Super Rugby AU and Super Rugby Aotearoa facing off.

The Saders’ beat the Reds in every possible aspect, winning 63-28. Much better will be expected of the Queensland side this week but it doesn’t get much easier with the Chiefs in town.

Reds Team News

Brad Thorn is handing Isaac Henry a debut at centre this weekend. Filipo Daungunu also returns to the starting lineup with Jock Campbell missing out with a groin complaint.

Chiefs Form

The Chiefs have won both of their Super Rugby trans-Tasman matches but sit fifth on the table. That is simply down to their points difference and the fact that they have only picked up one bonus point.

After losing out in the Super Rugby Aotearoa final, the Chiefs will be keen to win the trans-Tasman title. Given the big scores some of their counterparts are putting on, the Chiefs may need to up their game.

In round one the Chiefs just got over the line, beating the Western Force 20-19 in Perth. Last week was more convincing as they saw off the Brumbies 40-19 at home.

Chiefs Team News

International prop, Angus Ta’avaro and Mitchell Brown both return from injury against the Brumbies.

In the backline, Kaleb Trask moves to fullback while Chase Tiatia will feature on the wing. Jonah Lowe misses out.
