Brumbies vs Rebels Tips

The Brumbies are under pressure to win this well with the Chiefs just a point back on the table. However, the hosts have won all six home games this season, so I fancy them to cover the -14 handicap and perhaps get a crucial bonus point.

Head to Head

Brumbies have won eight of their last nine matches against the Rebels. On the opening weekend of this season, the Brumbies beat the Melbourne outfit 30-3 in Canberra.

Brumbies Form

The Brumbies have been a level above their Australian counterparts this season, producing solid and consistent form throughout. They have won 10 of their 12 matches with both defeats coming away from home.

Currently the Brumbies are third on the table, four points off the Hurricanes, but can go above the Canes if they lose to the Chiefs and the Brumbies win well in this encounter. The Canberra-based outfit will have to watch out though as the Chiefs are just a point behind in fourth.

Since losing 46-7 in Auckland to the Blues, the Brumbies have beaten the Hurricanes and Fijian Drua at home, then followed it up with an away win against the Waratahs.

Last weekend the Brumbies were very fortunate to come away with a 31-24 home win over the Crusaders. The issue for the Brumbies this season has been their inability to pick up bonus points with just three to their name. The teams around them have all gotten six or seven.

Brumbies Team News

(1-15): James Slipper, Billy Pollard, Allan Alaalatoa (c), Darcy Swain, Tom Hooper, Nick Frost, Jahrome Brown, Rob Valetini, Ryan Lonergan, Noah Lolesio, Corey Toole, Tamati Tua, Len Ikitau, Andy Muirhead, Tom Wright

Rebels Form

The Rebels have surprised many this season with their performance. They are sixth at the moment and look set to make the quarterfinals.

While they are just five points off the Reds in fifth, the Rebels are likely to have an eye on the Highlanders and other sides below them. If things go badly in the next two weeks the Rebels may find themselves in trouble.

Form is not with the Melbourne side at the moment. They have lost their last four games, albeit by small margins in the last two games. They went down 26-22 at the Reds and lost week lost 26-23 at home to the Chiefs.

Verdict

Considering the home form of the Brumbies, I am backing them to cover the -14 handicap on Friday.
