France vs South Africa Tips

France are looking to humble another southern hemisphere powerhouse this week following their stunning win over New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament.

South Africa will fancy their chances of defeating the tournament hosts on Monday as they look to impose their power game on the French.

France Form

France have looked good across the tournament, but they face their biggest test when they battle South Africa on Monday.

In name, New Zealand were an equally imposing test to South Africa, but in reality, they barely made France sweat. Was it the French playing well or New Zealand choking? It felt like more of the latter as France hardly got out of second gear, cantering past an All Blacks side that looked like they had barely played together.

They have since disposed of Uruguay, Namibia and Italy to ensure they went through at the top of their group. Their reward is the chance to dump South Africa out in the quarter-finals and edge closer to writing their names into World Cup history.

With Antoine Dupont likely to start at nine, all eyes will be on how the South Africans treat him. They will surely attempt to remind him of their presence and his injury, but with referees so hot on head contact at the moment, any illegal attempts at roughing him up could cost the Springboks.

South Africa Form

South Africa were building nicely in their opening two matches as they downed Scotland 18-3 before hammering Romania 76-0.

They then went into their clash with Ireland knowing that a win would secure them top-spot. However, they failed to score the points to hurt the number one side in the world, and they fell to a 13-8 loss that showed they are not the unstoppable force they thought they were.

A 49-8 win over Tonga means they have at least bounced back from this defeat, but they face the tournament hosts still looking for their top gear. France will look to use their offloading game along with their flying wingers, but South Africa know that if they can shunt the French back then it will help to silence the crowd in what should be a stunning way to bring the quarter-finals to a close.

I am backing France to find a way to dump the reigning world champions out at the quarter-final stage, with Damian Penaud crossing for a try.
