Australia vs New Zealand Bledisloe Cup Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The Rugby Championship continues this weekend as the Wallabies host the All Blacks in Perth as both teams look to ramp up their World Cup preparations.

Australia looking snap a 17 year Trans-Tasman losing streak in Bledisloe Cup against New Zealand in a match that is incredibly hard to predict given how shaky both teams have been leading in.

The line of -12.5 at BetEasy is a huge head start for the Wallabies at home against an All Blacks team that is yet to showcase the brilliance that has seen them win the last two World Cups.

Australia Form & Team News

Australia got a much needed 16-10 win over Argentina at the Suncorp Stadium.

There were question marks on the Wallabies following their disappointing 18-point drubbing at the hands of the Springboks but the Pumas provided the perfect bounce back opportunity.

The shock move by head coach Michael Cheika is selecting reformed bad boy James O'Connor at outside centre. Incredibly this is O'Connor's first start in a Wallabies jersey in six years.

In the last three World Cup years (2007, 2011 & 2015) Australia have beaten the All Blacks at home. This fact has done little to sway the online bookmakers with the Wallabies at $4.90.

New Zealand Form & Team News

New Zealand is the top ranked team in world rugby but they have failed to hit their straps so far in the Rugby Championship.

The All-Blacks only narrowly overcame the Pumas in a tight tussle before drawing 16-16 with the Springboks at home.

New Zealand coach Steve Hansen has some selection headaches, most notably Brodie Retallick, who dislocated his shoulder against South Africa in Wellington. Scott Barrett looks the likely man to replace Retallick, who is yet to have a firm timeline on when he will return.

The bookmakers are favouring New Zealand heavily, giving them a 12.5 handicap against the Australians. It's not something we can recommend given how flimsy their form has been leading into this match up.

Australia vs New Zealand Match Up

For the first time in recent memory the Australians will have a forward pack capable of matching it with the Kiwis.

Wallaby fans have been used to seeing their side get monstered by the All Blacks throughout the years but this looms as one of the most even match ups in a long while.

Australia vs New Zealand Key Statistics

  • Australia has beaten New Zealand at home in the last three World Cup years
  • New Zealand has failed to cover the line in their two Rugby Championship matches
  • Australia has not won the Bledisloe Cup since 2002

It looms as a tight match in Perth with two evenly matched sides going head-to-head.

The line looks incredibly lopsided in Australia's favour. We're taking the home side at the line as our bet of the evening with a straight bet on the Wallabies our value proposition given the history leading into World Cup campaigns at home against the All Blacks.
