Australia welcome New Zealand to the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane for the final match of the 2020 Bledisloe Cup on Saturday. With the cup already secured, New Zealand are looking to make changes while Australia will be looking for an improved performance.

Australia Form

After a disappointing end to the 2019 Rugby World Cup there was hope that Australia would bounce back to once again become a rugby powerhouse. Dave Rennie’s appointment as head coach was the first step in the right direction.

There was even more optimism after Australia managed to draw the 1st Bledisloe Cup test 16-all in New Zealand. Sceptics knew both teams were rusty, which helped Australia, and the subsequent two matches have shown how far the Wallabies still need to go.

A 27-7 loss at Eden Park followed the draw which left Australia in need of a victory as the All Blacks travelled across the Tasman. Unfortunately home ground advantage didn’t pay off as New Zealand cruised to a 43-5 win at the ANZ Stadium last week.

Australia Team News

Dave Rennie will be forced to ring the changes after suffering embarrassment last weekend. It is likely that he will turn to experience with Matt To’omua starting at fly-half and James O’Connor filling in at centre.

More changes are expected but we’ll see what those are when the teams are announced on Thursday.

New Zealand Form

After drawing the 1st Bledisloe Cup match 16-all in Wellington, New Zealand went on to win 27-7 in the 2nd Test. It was expected to be a tighter encounter with the Bledisloe Cup on the line last week, and Australia playing host.

That didn’t materialise as the All Blacks dismantled the Wallabies 43-5 at the ANZ Stadium. New Zealand ran into a 26-0 half time lead and then managed the second half without much of a fuss.

New Zealand Team News

The New Zealand coaching staff have already confirmed that there will be a number of changes to their side with the Bledisloe Cup tied up. On Thursday the team will be announced and we’ll have a clearer picture of the team selected.

Australia vs New Zealand Head to Head

New Zealand lead Australia 49-17 over their last 69 matches along with three draws. Their last match ended 43-5 in the All Blacks favour the ANZ Stadium.

Australia vs New Zealand Odds

Australia are paying $5.50 for the win while New Zealand are short priced at $1.13. The draw carries odds of $34.00.

Australia will be hurting after being embarrassed last week and they will be desperate to set it right. That, coupled with the fact that New Zealand will rest a number of players should offer the Aussies an opportunity to at the very least be more competitive.
