Australia host Argentina in a Tri Nations encounter at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday. The winner of this encounter will be in a great position to win the Tri Nations title, but who will come out victorious?

Both the Pumas and Wallabies come off morale boosting victories against New Zealand. Being at home will count in Australia's favour if they can match the intensity Argentina bring in the first 20 minutes.

Australia Form

Australia have endured a rather strange season thus far. They have only played New Zealand (four times) but their many positives have been mixed with some negatives.

An opening match 16-16 draw in Auckland was one of those positives. They then slipped to defeat in their second Bledisloe Cup match against the All Blacks in New Zealand.

The return to Australia brought hope that the Aussies to win the Bledisloe Cup, something they haven’t done in many years. Unfortunately, New Zealand piled on a record 43-5 win in that encounter.

The Wallabies bounced back to win 24-22 to in the final Bledisloe Cup match which will give them plenty of confidence. More importantly perhaps, seeing what Argentina achieved against New Zealand last week will ensure Australia don’t underestimate this week’s opponent.

Argentina Form

Argentina turned on the style last week as the caused a huge upset when they defeated New Zealand 25-15 in their Tri Nations opener.

It was the first time Argentina had ever beaten the All Blacks, but what made it more of a shock result was that the Pumas had not played Test match rugby since they were knocked out of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

That result has opened the Tri Nations up to Argentina and Australia who now look like the more likely winners. But the question remains, can Argentina reproduce the performance from last week?

The lack of game time will surely cost Argentina at some point. Australia are also confident after beating the All Blacks so the visitors will likely have to be even better this weekend.
