Covent Garden, a half-sister to superstar galloper Winx, has saluted in her stable debut for Peter Moody, prevailing by one and half lengths via a three-year-old Fillies Maiden (1400m) at Pakenham on June 22.
By Exceed And Excel and out of Vegas Showgirl, this superbly bred filly was originally prepared by Chris Waller and with little success over five outings in New South Wales, connections opted for a change in environment.
Speaking to Racing.com post the victory was trainer Peter Moody who is optimistic regarding the future of Covent Garden.
"It's important with a filly with that sort of pedigree to make her a winner and she's a lovely type of filly that's furnished out in the time we've had her," Moody said.
"She's probably going to be nicer mare in time, but we'll enjoy today and worry about the future then.
"He (John Camilleri) was hoping a changing of scenery might have clicked her around a bit and it seems to have worked, but we're not suggesting we've improved her on C.Waller.
"I'll happily swap this win for his prize money balance this year."
