Fresh off a famous Royal Ascot victory, Nature Strip has stepped out for his first public outing ahead of the 2022 spring.
Eventually working across to settle outside the speedy Overpass, who had won an August 12 trial at Rosehill by almost nine lengths, the champion sprinter was kept in a lovely rhythm throughout under James McDonald and worked to the line under his own steam for second.
In his first appearance since last year's Everest, which he contested first-up, 2020 Everest winner Classique Legend was another notable runner in a strong opening heat from Canterbury on September 1.
The striking grey jumped well and was able to hold third-place comfortably on the line, where he was 2.6 lengths off Nature Strip in the finish and held a safe margin on Lost And Running (fourth), with the John O'Shea-trained gelding catching the eye late.
Kiku, Promise Of Success and September Run rounded out the seven-horse field.
