The strong October form for jockey Zac Purton continued at Happy Valley, with the champion hoop recording four winners on the program, following up from a four-timer at Sha Tin on October 17.
With seven rides on the Wednesday night card, Purton struck his first blow for the evening in Race 2 aboard the Tony Cruz-trained Viva Popcorn, settling the gelding towards the rear of the field before rounding up his rivals up late.
He combined with David Hayes to record his second victory, taking Harmony N Blessed to front in the sixth for an all-the-way win in The Longines Cup, which was the feature event of the program.
That was the first leg of a winning hat-trick to end the night for Purton, saluting in Race 7 on the heavily supported Stormtrouper prior to lifting the brave Diamond Brilliant in the penultimate, which was his last engagement on Wednesday.
With Joao Moreira denying the Australian hoop of a fifth Hong Kong Jockey Premiership last season, Purton has set up handy buffer to help wrestle back his title, holding now a lead of 11 over the 'Magic Man' for the 2021/2022 period.
Hong Kong racing continues at Sha Tin on Sunday, October 24.
