A minor injury has forced the promising Acrobat out of the upcoming autumn, a two-year-old who until now, was the second favourite behind stable mate Enthaar in most futures markets for the 2021 Golden Slipper, courtesy of a dominant debut win in the Inglis Nursery at Randwick last December.
Ciaron Maher Racing released a statement on February 4, indicating that the focus would now turn to the spring with this well bred colt.
"Unfortunately, Acrobat has sustained a superficial cut to the back of his hock and althoguh it is only a minor injury, it has forced us to halt his preparation," the statement read.
"With his Golden Slipper lead up rapidly approaching, we have simply run out of time and together with Coolmore and his connections, we have made the tough decision to spell him with a view towards a spring campaign.
"He is a colt with enormous potential, one of the most naturally gifted two-year-olds we have trained and we have always considered him to be a leading Golden Slipper contender.
"Although it is disappointing for all involved, we are not taking any risks and believe a spell is in the best interests of the horse."
Acrobat is a son of I Am Invincible and out of the Group Two winning mare Hip's Don't Lie, a dam to two stakes-winners (Ennis Hill and Lake Geneva).
