Ablaze Dual Nominated...But Unlikely For Sandown

Despite being nominated for both features, unbeaten jumper Ablaze is likely to not accept in either of the The Australian Hurdle or The Australian Steeplechase at Sandown this Sunday.

A last start winner of The Grand Annual (5500m) at Warrnambool when defeating star veterans in Gold Medals and Zed Em, After The Last on Racing.com reports that this Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained gelding appears as "unlikely" to run this weekend and will instead be aimed for some of the feature jumps races later this season.

The $250,000 Grand National (4200m) at Sandown on August 2 and/or the $350,000 Grand National Steeplechase (4500m) at Ballarat on August 23 appear as probable targets for this eight-year-old.

Ablaze has been a revelation over the jumps with the ex-Kiwi winning by more than thirty lengths combined in his four victories which includes an eight length margin in the Grand Annual.
An overseas trip in 2021 has also been rumoured for Ablaze, with the Maher & Eustace stable having already experienced this in 2019 when campaigning Big Blue in Europe.

The Australian Hurdle (fourteen nominations) and The Australian Steeplechase (eleven nominations) are both worth $100,000 and they feature on this Sunday's program from Sandown.
