Ahead of the golf making its third consecutive appearance at the games, Scottie Scheffler has been made the favourite to triumph for the USA at $5.00, but he is not alone at the head of the betting. 

Scottie Scheffler has been a hot pick in golf this year and will arrive for the 2024 Olympics as the favourite to secure gold in the event. 

He is priced at $5.00 with bet365. Xander Schauffele is right behind him at $7.50, with Rory McIlroy ($9.00) the only other option available below $10.00. 

Further out in the betting you will find Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland. 

The interesting thing heading towards the event will be that there are so many viable prospects in the betting. Scheffler has looked very good of late, while Schauffele has good memories of the Olympics after triumphing in 2020. 

Schauffele's triumph on the men's side was coupled with Nelly Korda winning for the USA on the women's side as the nation completed a clean sweep of gold medals in the sport. 

McIlroy once again provides an interesting proposition, but he has struggled at Majors this year. Indeed, he finished a long way short of the eventual winner in another poor performance. 

The Men' Individual Stroke Play first round will begin on August 1. The fourth round will be played on August 4, with the medals to be given out on that day. 

With such a short space of time between the start and end of the event, anything could happen. A bad start could spell the beginning of the end of hopes of a medal. Meanwhile, a strong start could see a contender with little hope at the start romping to the top of the betting.
