Wests Tigers vs Brisbane Broncos, Round 8 2024 - Expert Prediction

Adam Reynolds and Payne Haas’ return to Brisbane will give them the boost that they need to rack up another 13+ victory over the Tigers Saturday night.

Wests have a horrendous winless record at Campbelltown since 2020 and it is certainly not going to get better when they face Brisbane. The Broncos have their key men returning and the addition of Haas and Reynolds is really going to make a difference in Broncos ability to control the territory in the match which will see them get the big victory and hold the Tigers Under 16.5 points in the match.

Reece Walsh has been electrifying this season when he has been on the field and will score his seventh try of the season.

  • The Tigers have lost 8 straight games at Campbelltown Stadium.
  • 3 of 4 Brisbane wins have been by a margin of 13+ this season.
  • Wests have scored 16 points or less in 7 of their past 9 matches at Campbelltown Stadium.
  • Reece Walsh has scored 6 tries in his 4 full matches played.

Head to Head

Brisbane broke a four-game losing streak against the Tigers in 2023, piling on eight tries to two in their 46-12 victory over Wests in round 5 last season.

The win for Brisbane made things even with both teams winning 5 of their last 10 games against each other.

The Tigers season was starting to look slightly promising with two wins from their first three matches, however, Wests have fallen into old habits and have lost three consecutive games.

Wests started well against Penrith going in at the break 10-6 down after scoring the first try of the match, however, Penrith took control of the territory and the Tiger’s attack failed to fire, even with the return of Lachie Galvin from suspension.

The Tigers defence still looked better than it did over the previous two weeks and they held their own in the middle of the field matching it with the reigning champs in run metres, linebreaks and post contact metres, which is still a positive sign for Benji Marshall and the Tigers.

Wests Tigers Team News

Solomon Alaimalo will make his first start for the Tigers, replacing Junior Tupou who suffered a foot injury last week.

John Bateman moves into the lock-forward position with Samuela Fainu moving to the edge and Fonua Pole on the interchange bench.

Brisbane were completely unfazed by the monsoon weather pouring down on their contest with Canberra last Saturday night, using it to their advantage more than anything else. Brisbane hammered teenager Chevy Stewart at the back with high balls, just as they did against the Cowboys a couple of weeks prior, capitalizing on mistakes and running up a 28-0 scoreline at the break and winning the match 34-10.

The Broncos have been managing injuries to start the season and have to be impressed with how they have handled it, especially winning both matches without their star-halfback Adam Reynolds, with Jock Madden slipping in nicely.

Brisbane have now had a winning margin of 13+ in 3 of 4 victories this season and have been pushing their totals over in 5 of 7 matches this season with a strong display in attack, averaging 33 points per game in their last 4 matches.

Brisbane Broncos Team News

Plenty of movement in the Brisbane camp with a mixed bag of news. Adam Reynolds, Payne Haas and Brendan Piakura all return, while Selwyn Cobbo and Ezra Mam will miss this week.

Jock Madden will fill Mam’s spot at five-eight and Jesse Arthurs moves into the centres with Deine Mariner returning on the wing.
