Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders Tips

The Raiders' second half woes are quite alarming. From Rounds 5 to Round 11, Canberra have scored just 20 points in the second half and the Roosters are tipped to take advantage.

With both sides missing a number of players, under 40 points is predicted.

  • Sydney Roosters won their last game at Central Coast Stadium.
  • Sydney Roosters have won 6 of their last 8 matches against Canberra Raiders.
  • Eight of the last 9 games between these sides have had a margin of 8 points or less.
  • Six of the last 9 games have had 40 points or under.
  • Canberra Raiders have lost 6 of their last 7 matches.
  • Canberra Raiders have lost all 6 games played at Central Coast Stadium.
  • Canberra Raiders have been kept scoreless after halftime in 4 of their last 7 games.

Head-to-Head

There have been 66 games played between these two sides, with the Roosters holding a slender 36-30 head to head advantage.

They have met just once before at Central Coast Stadium, which resulted in a 30-16 win for the Roosters back in 2005.

Eight of the last nine games between these sides have had a margin of 8 points or less, while just three of thee last nine has had more than 40 points scored in the entire game.

Sydney Roosters Form

The Roosters have been inconsistent in recent weeks, but it is easy to see why with a horrid injury toll and an increasing list of suspended players.

Nevertheless, Sydney are still sitting inside the top five thanks to wins over Manly Sea Eagles, Wests Tigers, New Zealand Warriors, Cronulla Sharks, St George Illawarra Dragons, Newcastle Knights and North Queensland Cowboys.

Last weekend, they suffered a shock loss to the lowly Brisbane Broncos at home. The 34-16 defeat was their first loss to a side outside the top eight since Round 2, 2020.

Sydney Roosters Team News

During the week the Roosters lost Victor Radley for five weeks and Angus Crichton for two weeks due to suspension.

They will be sitting on the sideline for this weekend's game alongside Freddy Lussick, Boyd Cordner, Sam Verrills, Drew Hutchison, Billy Smith, Luke Keary, Brett Morris, Lindsay Collins and the recently retired Jake Friend.

The small consolation is that Josh Morris returns for this clash with the Raiders. He slots back in at centre, pushing teenager Joseph Suaalii out of the 17.

Isaac Liu replaces Radley at lock, Siosiua Taukieaho moves into the front row and Daniel Suluka-Fifita joins the bench.

Egan Butcher or Fletcher  Baker will likely replace Crichton in the back row, opening the door for a possible debutant forward to slot into the 17.

Canberra Raiders Form

After winning three of their opening four games and sitting comfortably inside the top five, the Raiders have fallen apart.

They have won just one of their last seven games. The one win was hardly inspiring either, as it was a tight two-point win over the last placed Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Raiders' second half woes are a huge problem that is costing them games and they are no closer to finding a remedy.

Last weekend they were trounced 34-10 by a bits and pieces Melbourne Storm side. Canberra trailed 12-10 at halftime, before Melbourne scored 22 unanswered points in the second-half.

Canberra Raiders Team News

The big news this week for the Raiders has been the release of halfback George Williams, effective immediately.

His omission is a big out for the Raiders, who are already without Tapine, Papalii, Smith-Shields, Croker and Nicoll-Klokstad.

The Raiders have a wealth of talent and experience returning this weekend though. Jordan Rapana, Jack Wighton and Josh Hodgson all return to the 17.

Rapana replaces Valemei, Sam Williams moves from five-eighth to halfback to cover the loss of George Williams. Wighton returns at five-eighth and Hodgson is on the bench, forcing Schneider out of the side. Soliola replaces Young on the bench.

Verdict

Give the form of both sides currently, the number of omissions and reshuffles, this looks set to be yet another low scoring game with a close margin. A Roosters win by 1-12 margin and total game points of under 49.5 are tipped.
