The 2022 iteration of the State of Origin is fast approaching, with one of the biggest series in rugby league on the horizon.

The State of Origin is a best of three series between two Australian representatives, the New South Wales Blues and the Queensland Maroons.

The series is seen by many as Australia's greatest sporting rivalry, and it always sees packed stadiums with huge audiences watching on from home.

Seen as the pinnacle of competition in rugby league, it was the New South Wales Blues that secured the shield in 2022 after a 2-1 series win. Impressively, the Blues were able to romp into a 2-0 lead, meaning they went into the final game with an unassailable lead.

The opening game saw the Blues hammer their opponents 50-6 before then winning 26-0. The two victories showed that there was a chasm in class between the pair, with the Queensland Maroons then winning the third and final game 20-18.
This series win helped the New South Wales Blues to wrestle the Shield back from their opponents after Queensland won 2-1 back into 2020.

This time around, New South Wales go in as favourites with Ladbrokes at $1.45. Queensland are available at $2.75 to take the shield back, with the bookies fancying the Blues to defend their crown.

This series tends to see exceptionally tight battles, with 11 of the last State of Origin series all ending 2-1. This clearly shows that there is not usually too much between the sides through just how competitive the matches and series are.

This simply means that the betting odds will tend to be quite tight unless one of the sides is utterly humiliated in the opening match. However, if this happens then there are still two games to be played.

If you want to back New South Wales Blues but you feel they are too short right now, then you could wait for the first match and hope the Blues lose, which will then see their odds drift, providing much more potential value.

This year, the fixtures will be as follows:
Game 1 - Wednesday, June 8th - Stadium Australian, Sydney
Game 2 - Sunday, June 26th - Optus Stadium, Perth
Game 3 - Wednesday, July 13th - Suncorp Stadium

State of Origin Series Winner
New South Wales Blues$1.45
Queensland Maroons$2.75

Odds from Ladbrokes. Correct at 10/03/2022.
