We will be treated with a spectacle we have never seen before, when the 2020 State of Origin series kicks off on Wednesday, November 4. It will be the first time ever the series has been played after the conclusion of the NRL season, with New South Wales looking to secure their third straight victory.

NSW Blues Form & Team News

The Blues enter the 2020 State Of Origin series as hot favourites on the back of consecutive series victories in 2018 and 2019.

Brad Fittler has selected a new look halves pairing with Luke Keary set to make his debut at five-eighth, partnering Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary at halfback.

Cody Walker will fill the utility role on the bench after missing out on the five-eighth role, with Dally M winning five-eighth Jack Wighton moves to cover the open centre roles, partnered by Eels captain and fullback Clint Gutherson.

Daniel Tupou returns to the side on the wing, with Clint Gutherson, Keary and Junior Paulo all set to make their debuts.

QLD Maroons Form & Team News

The Maroons have looked to two of their most successful and respected mentors to turn the side’s luck around following the departure of Kevin Walters to take up the Broncos' coaching role. Wayne Bennett will coach the side alongside assistant coach Mal Meninga.

Bennett turned heads last week when dumping long serving members of the squad such as Josh McGuire in favour of youth, and has once again replicated his drive by naming eight debutants for Game 1, six in the starting side.

AJ Brimson (fullback), Xavier Coates (wing), Brenko Lee (centre), Phillip Sami (wing), Jake Friend (hooker) and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui (lock) will debut in the starting side, with Lindsey Collins and Jaydn Su’A on the bench.

Although they do possess a lack of experience, the Queensland side have been buoyed by the underdog tag since the inception of Origin and Bennett will be looking to insert the same belief into this squad.

Blues vs Maroons Head To Head

The Maroons boast a narrow lead over the Blues in head-to-head matches, winning 62 of 117 games with two draws.

The Blues recorded a stunning 26-20 victory over the Maroons in last year's decider, securing a second successive 2-1 series win on the back of a solo James Tedesco try.

Blues vs Maroons Betting Odds

The Blues are $1.37 short priced favourites to win Game 1 and defeat the Maroons who are at $3.10. The line has been set at -7.5 for the Blues ($1.90) and +7.5 for the Maroons ($1.90).

Blues vs Maroons Match Up

AJ Brimson was forced to miss the start of the 2020 season due to injury, however, his immense talent was there for all to see when he returned to the Titans side. He immediately turned the Titans side around, with his speed, footwork and ball playing ability a threat for any defensive side.

Although he no doubt ended 2020 in career best form, Brimson comes up against the reigning 2019 player of the series in James Tedesco. Arguably the best player in the world, if the Blues forwards are able to dominate the Maroons pack, Tedesco will be nearly unstoppable.

Blues vs Maroons Key Stats

  • The Maroons have won 62 of 117 matches over the Blues.
  • The Blues have won 4 of the last 6 matches, winning the series 2-1 in 2018 and 2019.
  • The Blues have won the last 2 matches by a combined 64-26.
  • Four of the last 5 matches have been separated by only either four or six points
