New Zealands game last weekend against Manly ended in a 22-all draw with Shaun Johnson and Daly Cherry-Evans both missing opportunites to slot the extra point. The Warriors looked exhauseted at the completion of the game and will now have a 6 day turnaround with a trip to Sydney for their troubles.

The Dragons upended the Tigers in their match on Sunday with a spirited attacking effort. Despite being outdone by Wests in almost all stats St George were able to hold on to the win thanks to some desperate tryline defence. At the other end of the park the Dragons had only 9 tackles inside the Tigers 20m zone with 3 of the 4 tries they scored coming from swinging backline plays starting outside the red zone.

The top tier scoring teams have all put points on St George so far this year and with the Wahs starting to click more and more in attack for each week this total could get big. I predic that the Dragons will be able to score a try or two to help the total along and therefore will be playing the Over.

  • New Zealand lead the NRL in average Run Metres notching 1630m per game
  • St George concede the 4th most Run Metres on average allowing their opponents 1479m per game
  • The Dragons are also ranked 4th worst in Opposition Points allowing an average of 23.7 points per game
  • All three Dragons losses this season have been by 13 or more points.

Head to Head

The Dragons and Warriors have met 8 times since the beginning of the 2019 season with New Zealand winning 5 of 8 including both games played last year. The Warriors came away with double digit winning margins in those games

3 of the last 4 games have gone Over the Game Total with an even 4-4 split over the past 8 games. New Zealand hold a 5-3 ATS advantage over St George in that same period.

St George Dragons Recent Form

The Dragons are 2-3 in their last 5 games both straight up and ATS. 3 of those games have gone Under the Game Total.

So far this season 4 of 6 games the Dragons have played have gone Under the Game Total with all three of their losses being by 13+ points.

St George Dragons Team News

Jack Bird will miss this game with concussion protocol which sees Zac Lomax move in to the centre position where he has played most of his football. Christian Tuipulotu comes on to the wing in his club debut.

Raymond Faitala-Mariner will start from the front row after coming in late last week in place of Luciano Leilua. Despite not seeing a single minute of action in their win last week Jesse Marschke has again been named at 14.

Verdict

The Dragons have put up some ok performances in their 3 wins this season but they haven’t been against any quality opponents. Now they meet another possible top 4 team and my prediction is they will be brought back down to earth, hard. Warriors to win by 13+ and AFB to score first as usual!
