Souths have the worst defence in the league and North Queensland get a key in in Murray Taulagi returning on the wing to link up with his partner in crime Valentine Holmes. The Cowboys winger will get straight into form with a meat pie on the left side of the field.

The Cows defensive line has been lacking conjinuity also so we can expect the points to flow in this game. South will do their bit for the total but North Queensland will get the win in Brisbane and cover the 7.5-point start.

  • The Cowboys have won 5 of their past 7 games at Suncorp Stadium.
  • 8 of 10 Cowboys games have gone over the Game Total in 2024.
  • The Rabbitohs average 35.6 points against per game in 2024.
  • Murray Taulagi has scored 5 tries in his past 6 games for the Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.

Head to Head

The Cowboys got a 31-6 victory over the Rabbitohs in Round 17 last season with Val Holmes getting a haul of 18 points in the match, scoring 2 tries and kicking 5 goals.

The win in 2023 was the only victory the Cowboys have taken over the Rabbitohs since 2019, with South Sydney leading the head to head battle 5-1.

Things are bleak in Redfern with the Bunnies holding firm at the bottom of the ladder with just one win this season.

The only positive coming out of the Rabbitohs camp in their 28-14 loss to the Dragons was the performance of Latrell Mitchell, who scored two tries in his return from a three week suspension. The Bunnies fullback also set up  the third try for Izaac Thompson, which overall has been his best statistical performance of the season.

South Sydney still could not do anything about their defence though with the Dragons running in four tries including a couple of soft ones on tired, uncommitted legs.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Team News

Gehamat Shibasaki makes way for the return of Alex Johnston on the wing. Izaac Thompson moves into the centres and Jacob Gagai will occupy the opposite wing.

Taane Milne is an interesting choice on the bench for Ben Hornby as Michael Chee Kam and Matt French drop out of the side.

After starting 4-1 this season the Cows have now lost five straight games and have now become the fourth worst defensive team in the NRL, allowing their opposition to score an average of 26.5 points per game.

North Queensland relied on their attack heavily early in the season and it has become slightly more stagnant over the past five games, averaging just 18 points. It is only a matter of time before it sparks up again, however, North Queensland will need to fix their play on the defensive side of the ball if they are going to avoid missing the finals for a second year running.

Murray Taulagi returns from his hamstring injury with Semi Valemi dropping out of the side.

Jordan McLean will return from a hamstring injury that saw him become a late withdrawal against the Titans last week. Thomas Mikaele moves to the bench and Harrison Edwards.
