South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Brisbane Broncos Tips

After a tough origin period, Souths find themselves on the cusp of dropping out of the top 8. But they will be eyeing off a victory against Brisbane who they beat comfortably in round 9.

The Models are saying that this one is set to be a tight battle, not being able to split the two rivals giving a projected score of a 20-point draw. The fitness of the plethora of returning stars is going to play a massive role on Friday night, with both teams enjoying the return of some of their biggest names, like Latrell Mitchell and Payne Haas.

Amazingly Brisbane have not played a game at Sunshine Coast Stadium, where Souths have played four and won four. With the fitness of Adam Reynolds unknown and the return of half of the Rabbitohs first choice players I am leaning towards a South Sydney victory as 3.5 point favourites.

Souths have been doing it tough defensively, but you can throw recent form out the window now after Origin and start again. I predict that both teams will be focusing on a defensive performance this week and the total will stay under the 45.5 points given. Brisbane have had trouble stopping opposing fullbacks in 2023, so a Latrell Mitchell try in his return is a great bet.

  • Souths have won 6 of their last 10 against Brisbane.
  • The winning team between the Broncos and the Rabbitohs has covered the spread in the last 10 meetings.
  • The UNDER has hit in 4 of the last 5 games between Souths and Brisbane.
  • Brisbane have allowed 6 tries in 6 games to opposing fullbacks.

Head to Head

Souths stuck it to Brisbane in round 9, 2023, demolishing the Broncos 32-6 on the back of a 6-3 Linebreak count and outrunning their opponents by almost 300 Total Run Metres.

The Rabbitohs also have the better recent head-to-head record winning six of the last 10.

The winning team has covered the spread in all of the last 10 meetings between Souths and Brisbane, with double digit margins in seven of the last 10 games.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Form

After winning six straight, South Sydney have gone on to win just two games of their last seven, which coincides with the injury to their fearless leader at the back Latrell Mitchell as well as the disruption of Origin.

They will now have their stars back and we should expect a completely different South Sydney Rabbitohs team that should produce more performances like they did earlier in the season.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Team News

Latrell Mitchell,(calf) will be making his return to the team at fullback. Jai Arrow (ankle) and Campbell Graham (sternum) are also back in action after recovering from their respective injuries.

Furthermore, Damien Cook, Cody Walker, Keaon Koloamatangi, and Cameron Murray will be rejoining the team following their State of Origin duties. Additionally, Jacob Host, who had been serving a suspension, will make his comeback to the team.

On the bench, we have Blake Taaffe, Siliva Havili, and Thomas Burgess, while young talent Tyrone Munro unfortunately misses after starring in his first two appearances for the club.

Brisbane Broncos Form

Surprisingly to most the Brisbane Broncos have fared well, if not best during the Origin period, winning five of their six games since round 13.

During that time they have conceded an average of just 18.6 opposition points, which is less than one point more than their season average. A gallant effort considering they have been missing plenty of their starters the last 2 months.

Brisbane Broncos Team News

There are some concerns regarding Adam Reynolds' availability for the Broncos due to a wrist injury, although he has been named in the lineup.

If Reynolds is unable to play, Jock Madden is the likely candidate to step up and replace the esteemed number 7 in the halves.

On the positive side, Reece Walsh, who was serving a suspension, and Payne Haas, recovering from an ankle injury, will be making their return this weekend. Additionally, Patrick Carrigan is back in action after being rested following Origin III.

Souths need to get their season back on track and will do it this Friday night against the Broncos, covering the 3.5 points as favourites. We can expect a defensive battle which will hold the Game Points Total UNDER 45.5.

Latrell Mitchell loves a try against Brisbane, who are finding it tough to stop fullbacks this season. It is worth a lazy unit on the draw with our models predicting a tie after regular time.
