Canberra Raiders and Cronulla Sharks contest the first NRL Elimination Final on Saturday at GIO Stadium. Last year's Grand Finalists the Raiders finished in fifth spot on the ladder and are red-hot favourites to defeat eighth placed finishers Cronulla.

Canberra Raiders ended the season in fifth place on the ladder with a 14-6 record with last year's beaten Grand Finalist enjoying a stellar second half to the campaign.

The Raiders won nine of the last 11 and ran up some heavy points too. Canberra scored 34 or more in four of their last five including a 38-28 Round 20 victory over the Sharks despite resting a number of stars.

Second row John Bateman, fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, winger Jordan Rapana and halfback George Williams all return to the start line-up and minor injuries.

Centre Jarrod Croker, five-eighth Jack Wighton, second row Elliott Whitehead, prop Josh Papalii and lock Joe Tapine were given a rest last week, but are back.

Hudson Young and Corey Harawira-Naera drop to bench with Sia Soliola and Siliva Havili, with Kai O'Donnell, Darby Medlyn, Jarrett Subloo and Ryan Sutton left out.

Cronulla lost their last two matches of the regular season and five of their last eight in a disappointing end to the season. But that form didn't stop the Sharks from ending eighth on the ladder with an equal 10-10 record. 

The Sharks have been leaking points, conceding 34-plus in five of their last six matches against fellow top 8 teams. That includes a 34-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters and the 38-28 defeat to a weakened Raiders last weekend.

Cronulla welcome halfback Chad Townsend back suspension forcing a reshuffle. Wade Graham reverts to the back row from five-eighth, while winger Sione Katoa and centre Josh Dugan return from injuries. 

Hooker Blayke Brailey, lock Toby Rudolf and Siosifa Talakai come back in after being rested last week. Scott Sorensen drops to the bench with Nene Macdonald, Mawene Hiroti, Teig Wilton, Billy Magoulias and Daniel Vasquez all left out.
