Raiders vs Sea Eagles Preview, Predictions & Betting

The final match of round 23 features the game of the weekend as the Canberra Raiders host the Manly Sea Eagles in which is a great preview to finals football.

The Raiders are coming off a brilliant win against the Storm in Melbourne 22-18. Canberra scored two tries in the final ten minutes to steal a famous victory.

The Sea Eagles crushed the Tigers 32-12 at Lottoland last Thursday night, running in six tries to two in a dominant display.

Both teams will be looking for the edge this week with the finals approaching.

Raiders Team News

The Raiders have two changes from the team that beat the Storm last weekend.

Joseph Tapine is unavailable for section due to a rib injury which paves the way for Ryan Sutton to take back the starting spot at lock.

With Ryan Sutton coming into the starting line-up, Hudson Young will get the last bench spot.

There is still a chance the Raiders will change their bench with Bailey Simonsson possibly making way for Siliva Havili should Ricky Stuart think the change is beneficial.

Sea Eagles Team News

The Sea Eagles have no changes to the side that beat the Tigers last weekend.

Curtis Sironen is still struggling with a hamstring injury and wasn’t included in the reserves while Brad Parker is still sidelined with a knee injury.

25-year-old Jack Gosiewski came back into the starting line-up last weekend and scored the first two tries. He retains his spot in the team after that stand-out game.

The Sea Eagles have decent enough depth to make their case for a premiership this year.

Raiders vs Sea Eagles Head To Head

When it comes to the final results, Manly has been dominant in recent times.

Since 2004 the Raiders have only won seven times out of 24 clashes with the men from Manly.

At Canberra Stadium, Manly hold a slight advantage winning six of the past ten clashes.

Raiders vs Sea Eagles Match Up

The match-up to focus on is the halfbacks Daly Cherry-Evans and Aidan Sezar.

Daly Cherry-Evans each week puts his stake in for the best halfback in the NRL. He currently sits tied third in the NRL for try assists on 17 which further highlights his dominance in attack.

DCE has forced 12 drop-outs this year which is impressive and his 12 line break assists add to the stats of 2019. Defensively, Cherry-Evans has an 88% tackle efficiency which is very high for a halfback defending in the line.

Statistically, Aiden Sezer isn’t anywhere near Cherry-Evans due to the number of games he has played but one stat has definitely come to the fore. In the twelve games Sezer has played, the Raiders have only lost three games by four, six and twelve points respectively. This shows the confidence the team plays with while Sezer is at the helm

Cherry-Evans should win this battle in the end, which will ensure the Sea Eagles get the points in the nation's capital.

Raiders vs Sea Eagles Key Statistics

•    Since their bye in Round 16, the Raiders have lost just once
•    Manly sits second in tackle breaks with 748, averaging 35.6 a game
•    Manly sits second in offloads with 268, averaging 12.8 a game

Verdict

This is going to be a tight contest, but I think Manly can swing a victory away from home.

The Sea Eagles have plenty of strike power and a forward pack who aren’t afraid to go toe-to-toe. Although Canberra will be on a high after their win in Melbourne, Manly is a different kettle of fish.

The contrasting styles will favour Manly slightly but the home crowd will keep Canberra in the game until the end.
