2019 NRL Preliminary Final Roosters vs Storm Preview, Predictions & Tips

In the 2018 Grand Final rematch, the Roosters host the Storm on Saturday night.

The Roosters showed they will be hard to beat with a big victory over the Rabbitohs in week one while Storm bounced back brilliantly against the Eels after a heart-breaking loss to the Raiders.

We will be backing the Roosters to win after what they showed in week one and being the defending premiers.

Roosters Team News

The Roosters put on a show in week one of the finals against the Rabbitohs scoring six tries to one.

James Tedesco was fantastic as usual, running 222 metres and scoring a try. He will need to be in top form to put his side in a winning position on Saturday night.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been suspended from playing in this week preliminary final, so Siosiua Taukeiaho comes into the starting squad while Lindsay Collins is now listed on the bench.

Jake Friend has been named in the reserves, coming back from an arm injury sustained in round 18.

Raiders Team News

The Storm were beaten by the Raiders in week one of the finals by two points in what was a close encounter.

They bounced back with a win over Parramatta, keeping the Eels scoreless while piling on seven tries in the process.

There are no side changes for Craig Bellamy's Storm.

Roosters vs Raiders Match Up

Luke Keary and Jack Wighton might be Australian teammates in a month's time, but the pair will be the decisive players heading into Sunday.

Keary is surrounded by superstar teammates but it seems that when he plays well, the Roosters rarely lose.

Former fullback Wighton has been brilliant since shifting to five-eighth. He was stellar in the team's win over the Bunnies last week and for the Raiders to be any chance here he'll have to replicate that form.

Roosters vs Raiders Head To Head

The Raiders will need to defy history if they are to hoist the trophy on Sunday night.

Canberra has a terrible record against the Roosters in Sydney, winning just eight of 30 matches, and since 1995  they have managed just one win from 17 matches.

Roosters vs Storm Key Statistics

  • The Roosters are looking to become the first team to win back-to-back grand finals in a unified competition since the Brisbane Broncos in 1992-93
  • The Roosters have won 73 per cent of games as the favourite this season
