Parramatta Eels vs Gold Coast Titans Preview

This game is always a cracker to watch, always being an entertaining display of attack from both teams. Unfortunately for us fans, I don’t see this being the case as the models predict a more one-sided affair with Parramatta getting on top of the Gold Coast by a decent margin and beating the line.

The Titans have not been as electrifying with the ball away from home recently so I am jumping on the UNDER 20.5 Team Total. Bailey Simonsson has scored in his last fourgames and will be up against a weak right-side defence and should extend that streak to five matches.

  • The Gold Coast have lost to Parramatta by an average margin of 14 when playing in Sydney.
  • Gold Coast has not managed to cover the line in 4 of their last 5 matches outside of QLD.
  • The Titans have scored less than 20 points in 2 of their last 3 away games.
  • Gold Coast allows an average of 2 tries per game on the right side of their defensive line.

Head to Head

The Titans snuck home 26-24 back in Magic Round earlier this year, even though the Eels dominated the Gold Coast in key stats like Total Run Metres 2005 to 1672 and Linebreaks 7 to 5.

Also to note that Clint Gutherson was sent to the sin bin in the 7th minute of the match putting the Titans on the front foot.

The Eels have had the better of the Titans in recent years, winning the previous seven games before round 10 this year, including five games by double-digits.

Parramatta Eels Form

The Eels' loss to the Warriors last week should not even be classed as a chink in the winning streak chain, as they were missing three of their biggest names to Origin duties, with Gutherson, Moses and Campbell-Gillard representing the Blues.

Parramatta hadn’t lost since round 12 before last week, putting together a five-game winning streak which has taken them up to 7th on the ladder after their recent loss to New Zealand.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Mitchell Moses, Clint Gutherson, and Reagan Campbell-Gillard are all expected to back up from their Origin commitments.

With Moses' return, Daejarn Asi will shift to the five-eighth position, and Ryan Matterson will move back to the bench, providing a strong lineup for the squad. Shaun Lane moves into the starting side switching places with Andrew Davey on the bench.

Gold Coast Titans Form

Although the Gold Coast have been a top 6 attacking side this year their defence has been letting them down, which is why they find themselves down in 11th position on the NRL ladder.

The Titans are facing their third consecutive loss, which will also be the second time they have lost three games in a row in the last two months of footy.

With Origin out of the way, it will be important for the Gold Coast’s big men to get some rest so they can find some consistent form and push for a top 8 spot.

Gold Coast Titans Team News

David Fifita, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Moeaki Fotuaika and AJ Brimson are all expected to back up after Origin lll.

Jaimin Jolliffe (hand) and Joe Stimson (concussion) will both miss the game after picking up injuries against the Dolphins, while Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui goes to 18th man.

The Eels are going to want it more and will put the Titans away good and proper to send a message to the rest of the league that they mean business again in 2023.

A double-digit margin is on the cards with the Titans not managing to score over 20 points. Bailey Simonsson can cross for a meat pie on the left side for the Eels.
