Mitch Moses and Clint Gutherson return for the Eels, while Cronulla will be without Nicho Hynes and tackling machine Cam McInnes, who are representing the Blues next Wednesday in Origin one.

The Eels defensive problems will still be there but with Cronulla losing their most creative player, while gaining their most attacking pair, the upper-hand flips drastically into Parramatta’s favour and are expected to cover the 1.5 points as favourites.

The Eels will now be likely to turn a lot of the pressure they build into points with Moses and Gutherson in the team so expect them to score over 23.5 points in this game with Sean Russell crossing on the left edge.

  • Parramatta won two of three games with Mitch Moses in the side in 2024.
  • Parramatta scored over 23.5 points in 2 of 3 games when Mitch Moses played halfback this season.
  • Parramatta have scored over 23.5 points in 2 of their past 3 games against Cronulla.
  • Parramatta score 46% of their tries on the left side of their attack.

Head to Head

Cronulla have won the past two games over the past two season against Parramatta by a slim average margin of just 3 points, winning in 2022 by 2 points and 2023 by 4 points.

Since 2019, the head to head record is split at three-a-piece.

No secret Parra’s form has been horrendous this season as they have struggled with depth in the absence of their biggest names Mitch Moses and Clint Gutherson.

The Eels have played expansive footy for years leaking points but scoring more and that just doesn’t hold up if you lose your creative weapons in attack.

The Eels have given up 30.2 points per game which is second-worst behind the Rabbits, while conceding 6.7 Linebreaks per game which is more than any team in the NRL.

Interim coach Trent Barrett will need to rectify the holes in the defensive line and try and hope that with the return of his key attackers he may be able to notch his first win in charge of the Eels.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Plenty happening for interim coach Trent Barrett on team’s day getting some positive news that both Mitch Moses and Clint Gutherson are available, along with the return of Will Penisini.

Barret has also dropped Joey Lussick with Brendan Hands getting the nod at hooker. J’maine Hopgood is on Origin duty so Joe Ofahengaue will lock the scrum.

Daejarn Asi drops out of the halves and Dylan Brown moves back to five-eight.

Cronulla were blown out of Shark Park by the Panthers last weekend, going down to Penrith 42-0.

The Sharks were starved of the ball in a typical display by the Panthers, despite missing the usual game-manager Nathan Cleary. Cronulla saw just 38% possession in the match and even less territory, playing just 28% of the game in Penrith’s half. The Sharks also faced 55 tackles by Penrith inside their 20m, which is no wonder they gave up 7 tries.

The 42-point margin was Cronulla’s third biggest loss in the club’s history, with the second biggest a 48-0 loss to Penrith in 2021 and is the third time in four years the Panthers have held the sharks to nil.

Cronulla Sharks Team News

Nicho Hynes and Cam McInnes are out on Blues duty with Brayden Trindall and Jack Williams replacing the pair.

Toby Rudolf and Braden Hamlin-Uele return from injury and will join the bench.
