Parramatta Eels vs Brisbane Broncos, Round 10 2024 - Expert Prediction

Both Parramatta and Brisbane will be missing their starting halfbacks for this match but it will be Brisbane and their defence that will guide them to victory, covering a 9.5-point line as the favourites.

Brisbane blasted Parramatta 54-10 last time they played and although their may not be that many points in them with Adam Reynolds being sidelined, the Broncos defence will bounce back from their poor performance last week and will hand Parra a comfortable loss by keeping the Eels under 18.5 points, as they lack the chemistry in their new-look spine.

Reece Walsh was really quiet last weekend against the Roosters and with the absence of Reynolds I expect the Brisbane fullback to be much more hands on and will slice through the defence once or twice and get a four-pointer.

  • Brisbane have beaten Parramatta by 10 points or more in their past 3 victories over the Eels.
  • Parramatta have averaged just 17 points per game since Mitch Moses has been sidelined.
  • Brisbane have held their opponents to less than 18 points in 3 of their past 4 matches.
  • The Eels have conceded a try to opposing fullbacks in their last 3 consecutive matches.

Head to Head

Brisbane won both games against the Eels in 2023 at two alternate stadiums. The Broncs got up in bad weather at TIO Stadium in Darwin in Round 8, beating Parra 26-10. They then faced each weather at The Gabba, with Brisbane putting up a halftime AFL score of 54-10 in round 24.

Brisbane have won 3 of the past 4 games against Parramatta, however, it is the Eels that hold a 7-4 lead in the head to head record.

The injury to Mitch Moses has hit the Eels hard with Parra winning just one of five matches without their star halfback. They now face a new crisis with the King of the West Clint Gutherson now spending an extended time on the sideline with injury.

The Eels have averaged just 17 points per game since the Moses injury as they stuggle to find creative combinations through their spine that can spark them inside their opponents 20m.

Attack is not the only problem for the Eels, allowing an average of 34.35 points per game in their previous 4 matches. They also concede 6.9 Linebreaks per game, which is the most of any team in the NRL.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Blaize Talagi will play his third position in 2024 for the Eels slotting in to fill the boots of Clint Gutherson at fullback after having slotted in in the centres and also having a short stint at five-eight.

Sean Russell comes back into the side in the centres, replacing Morgan Harper. Bryce Cartwright also returns, taking a spot on the bench with Brendan Hands dropping off.

Brisbane were embarrassed by the Roosters last week at Suncorp, going down to Easts 40-18, conceding 30+ points to a top four team for the third time this season. The loss also came at huge cost with Adam Reynolds coming out of the game and also losing Jesse Arthurs.

Despite having the majority of the territory, Brisbane’s defensive line was in tatters with the Roosters breaking their line 10 times in the match and putting on 7 tries despite only having 22 tackles inside the Brisbane 20m.

Brisbane are going to have to fight through this period without their main weapon in the territory battle and attacking 20m with Adam Reynolds sidelined for a while. The Broncos will need to correct their defensive lapses quickly as I cannot see them putting up the same amount of points each game and may also find themselves under more pressure in the absence of the little general’s kicking game.

Brisbane Broncos Team News

Josh Rogers will play his second game of first grade in the halfback position covering for Adam Reynolds and likely filling in until Jock Madden also overcomes injury.

Corey Oates will take over on the wing for Jesse Arthurs who is out with a broken jaw.

Jack Gosiewski will debut for Brisbane with the ex-Cowboys taking a spot on the bench in place of Fletcher Baker.
